Gibson County Auditor's Office

Gibson County Auditor's Office On this page we will give you some information and highlights of what happens in your local government and within the Gibson County Auditor’s Office.

A little bit about what we do is review claims/warrants, make sure each county department stays within their budget, and help with property tax. If you are buying a home, splitting property, or sold property stop by. We will review and adjust each property based on tax, the assessed value and any eligible exemption, after approval of the County Budget for the next year. Let’s talk about the money

we operate on – The biggest portion comes from the Settlement money from your property taxes which is distributed every June and December. COIT and EDIT money from income taxes are all received and distributed monthly. Through the Auditor’s office, Gibson County is audited annually by the SBOA because we receive Federal Grant Money for EMA, BEP, etc. The Property Tax and Commissioner’s Tax Sales are primarily run through the Auditor’s office. We have the PTS in the Fall and then the CTS in the spring. A property hits the Property Tax sale when the taxes have not been paid for 3 cycles or 1.5 years. A property hits the Commissioner’s Tax Sale when no one bids on it during a Property Tax Sale. We also take care of the payroll, deductions and PERF for over 200+ County Employees – split about 50/50 Union and Non-Union. Gibson County is self-insured for the Non-Union Employees which means that the County pays the first $70,000 on each employee and family member before our insurance plan kicks in. The Union Employees insurance is paid for by the County and provided by the Teamsters. Want to find out 1000's of State laws? We have them referenced from the Association of Indiana Counties and Indiana Codes. Also all of our transfer books from the beginning of our records has now been digitalized. The project was done offsite and came in way under the vendor's estimate! You can pull this right off of the Auditor's Public Portal on the Counties Website from your home or office. Stop by the Courthouse and let us help you! We have around 150 years of experience in the Auditor’s office. We may not know the answer to every question, but our network for obtaining the answer is second to none.
