APA provided the lead for the St. Jude run. The Princeville to Peoria run raised $113,775. Way to go Princeville.

The ambulance will be holding a CPR train on October 24 and 25 for BLS ( those in the medical field) If you need an update on your card please let me know what day you can attend. The cost is $45.00 and will be held at the ambulance garage at 6:30 pm. Please let me know by Oct 17 to assure we have enough instructors. Just send a message with the day and I'll get you signed up.

The Akron Princeville Ambulance gets the great honor on Saturday to lead the St. Jude runners from Princeville to Peoria. Please watch for them and cheer them on as they run for the children of St. Jude.

Transition to 3-digit Dialing Code for 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline Launches on July 16, 2022
On July 16, 2022, the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline—formerly known as the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline—will transition from its previous ten-digit phone number to the 988 dialing code.

What is 988?

988 is a 3-digit dialing code for the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (Lifeline), where compassionate, accessible care and support are available for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress. People in crisis can call or text 988, or use the webchat available at 988lifeline.org.

The goals for the Lifeline are to:

Provide immediate, confidential counseling to someone in distress
De-escalate suicidal or distressed thoughts
Connect people with local resources, when appropriate
Who answers 988 calls?

The Lifeline is a network of 200+ independent crisis centers across the US and territories. These centers are staffed by trained crisis counselors who are supervised during every shift by a licensed mental health professional.

How will 988 and EMS work together?

In rare but critical circumstances—less than 2% of contacts—counselors will determine via their protocols that someone is at imminent risk of harming themselves or someone else. In these situations, the Lifeline will contact 911 to dispatch emergency services.

We can all help prevent su***de. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States.

The weight of a pager. A Motorola Minitor V weighs 5 ounces until it goes off. When it goes off it bears the weight of the world. It weighs as much as a dying child as a frantic mother drops them into your arms. It weighs as much as a Lifepak, jump bag and oxygen tank as you race up flights of stairs to your patient. It weighs as much as hauling that patient back down those stairs. It weighs as much as Hurst rescue spreaders while removing a car door. It weighs as much as turnout gear, a Scott Air Pack, and a charged inch and a half hose, as you rush into a burning house. Sometimes the weight of that pager is too heavy on your heart and your mind, but you carry it anyways. You carry that weight because you care and are compassionate. It gives you pride and honor. It gives you a sense of purpose in this life. For those that bear the weight of a pager with honor, thank you. I consider you my brothers, my sisters. For those that want to help your community, we always have extra pagers and could use help bearing that weight.
