As temperatures rise and more people (and pups) head out to enjoy Barnes Butte Recreation Area, Crooked River Wetlands, and other city parks, it’s a great time for a friendly reminder:

Please keep your dogs on a leash unless you're in a clearly marked off-leash area.

This helps ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone—hikers, bikers, kids, and fellow dogs included.

Let’s all do our part to be good stewards of these beautiful community spaces.

Prineville’s water system relies on a combination of groundwater, reservoir storage, and long term water planning.

These sources work together to provide reliable water for residents, businesses, agriculture, and environmental needs.

Having multiple water sources helps strengthen the system and gives the City more flexibility during dry years or changing conditions.

In the coming weeks, we will explore each part of this system and how it helps keep Prineville prepared for the future.

Have you scheduled your backflow test?

With sprinkler season starting, now is the time to make sure your backflow prevention device has been tested.

Backflow devices help protect the community’s drinking water by preventing contaminated water from flowing back into the system. Homes with irrigation systems, pools, or certain fire suppression systems may have a device that requires annual testing by a certified tester.

If you have not scheduled your test yet, now is a great time to do so.

For questions or for a list of certified backflow testing contractors, call City Hall at 541-447-5627.

When Owens Corning announced it would close, 184 local jobs were at risk. For a community like ours, that kind of loss can have a lasting impact.

But through strong partnerships and quick action, the outcome looks very different.

More than 40 individuals found new jobs at a regional job fair, and today Lexington Manufacturing has stepped in, reemploying dozens of local workers, with plans to grow even further in the coming years.

This is what collaboration looks like. Local partners are working together to support workers, retain talent, and create new opportunities for the future.

What does it mean to you to see jobs and industry stay in Prineville?

Prineville is in a strong position to meet our community’s water needs today and into the future. That reliability did not happen overnight. It is the result of decades of planning, partnerships, and thoughtful investment.

Over the next few months, we will be sharing the story of Prineville’s water system including where our water comes from, how it is managed, and the partnerships and projects that help protect this vital resource.

Reliable water supports our homes, businesses, agriculture, and quality of life. We look forward to sharing how our community planned ahead to make that possible even in dry years.
