Dear La Ola del Lago Families,

We are urgently looking for host families for our Language Ambassadors for the upcoming school year- specifically fall semester at this time.

These ambassadors travel from around the world to support our students, classrooms, and immersion mission, but we cannot continue this program without families willing to open their homes.

Hosting simply means providing:

• A private bedroom

• Inclusion in family life and meals

• A welcoming environment

This experience has been incredibly meaningful for many of our host families, and we truly need our community to step up right now. If you have any questions about what it is like to host- Ashley Milot- our intern coordinator and a current host mom to Hugo, wound be happy to take your call and answer any questions.

If you are interested, willing to learn more, or even just curious, please reply to [email protected]

Thank you for helping make La Ola del Lago such a special community.

¡Felicidades a estos líderes de WAVES!🌊💙🙌🏽

🌊💸 From classroom economy to real-world experience — La Ola style! 🌮✨

Our 2nd graders made waves during their economics unit celebration with a special visit to PLate, where they used their hard-earned classroom income to order their meals completely in Spanish! 👏

This year brought an exciting new twist — students interviewed and “hired” 5th grade helpers to work alongside servers at PLate. The challenge? Keep the conversations flowing in Spanish! 🗣️💙

From practicing financial literacy to building confidence in real-world language skills, our students showed what it means to ride the wave of learning at La Ola. 🌊✨

Today was one of those days that reminds you why schools matter so deeply. ❤️

Our former La ola del lago Spanish immersion students — now high school freshmen and sophomores — walked back through the doors of the very elementary school where their journey began. And suddenly, it felt like time stood still for just a little while.

These students returned not just as visitors, but as leaders. They worked alongside our Kindergarten and Grades 1–2 students, teaching mini lessons connected to the learning currently happening in classrooms. The challenge? Stay in Spanish the entire time. And they did it beautifully.

There was something incredibly powerful about watching former students confidently speak, teach, encourage, laugh, and connect in a language they first began learning here years ago. Many reunited with former teachers. Some saw younger siblings sitting in the same classrooms they once sat in themselves. There were smiles, hugs, disbelief at how much everyone has grown — and definitely a few emotional moments.

Today was a reminder that La ola del lago is so much more than a program. It is a community. It is relationships. It is identity. It is belonging. It is a place that helped shape who these young people are becoming.

And maybe the most special part of all was watching our youngest students look up at these high schoolers with admiration — not realizing yet that one day, they will be the ones walking back through these hallways, inspiring the next generation behind them.

The cycle of learning. The cycle of community. The cycle of life. 🌊💙
