In the coming weeks, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and its Natural Resources Department will be working with Three Rivers Park District to survey the deer population around the SMSC.

A person in a helicopter will count deer from above, and no deer will be captured during this process. These counts help understand how many deer live in and around the SMSC, which supports better population management.
