Proctor Fire Department

Proctor Fire Department Serving Proctor since 1898. 21 Volunteer Firefighters, 4 Junior Firefighters, Engine 1, Engine 2, Ta The Proctor Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1898.

Our goal is to provide the town of Proctor and the surrounding communities with progressive and proficient fire protection. Department membership totals 25, 2 of which are Junior Firefighters. Our Junior Firefighter Program is open to students from 14 to 17 years old. Junior members are restricted from fighting fire, but are allowed to participate in many of the support functions on the fireground as well as participate in monthly training.

NEVER FORGOTTEN. January 23rd marks the 32nd anniversary of the line of duty death of Proctor Firefighter Maurice W. "Sony" Wardwell Jr. On January 23, 1994 Proctor Fire Department was on a mutual aid call at a Structure Fire in neighboring Pittsford, VT when Sony suffered a fatal medical emergency at the scene. Sony was 58 years old at the time of his death and was a 23 year veteran of the Proctor Fire Department. Sony's sacrifice will never be forgotten. REST IN PEACE BROTHER.

🌟 2025 Star of Life – Paramedic Tony Lockwood 🌟
Regional Ambulance Service proudly recognizes Paramedic Tony Lockwood as a 2025 Star of Life, awarded by the American Ambulance Association.
Tony began his EMS career 10 years ago as a volunteer EMT with Brandon Rescue and Pittsford -VT First Response Squad, and now serves as assistant field chief at PFRS and a Paramedic with Fair Haven Rescue.
He also serves as a firefighter with the Pittsford (VT) Fire Department.
Over the past eight years at Regional Ambulance Service, Tony has advanced from AEMT to Paramedic and Shift Supervisor, consistently demonstrating compassion, dedication, and leadership. His commitment to his patients, community, and colleagues truly exemplifies the spirit of the Star of Life.

A beautiful early fall evening for Master Stream training. We were flowing over 1800 gallons a minute in this photo. We are always thankful to the citizens of Proctor for providing us with the needed equipment to protect Life and Property.

At approximately 2:05 p.m. Saturday 04-19-25 Proctor Fire Department was dispatched to a fully involved barn Fire on Cain St in Proctor. Initial arriving units discovered a storage barn fully involved, the fire had spread into a wooded area and approximately 20 feet up into the tree canopy. It was also threatening a residential structure and multiple vehicles. Command immediately requested a full response mutual aid from Pittsford and Rutland Town Fire Departments. Firefighters quickly contained the fire and no other property was damaged. The last Proctor units cleared the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m.

We thank our Mutual Aid partners from Pittsford Fire Department and Rutland Town Fire Department. Rutland County is blessed to have such an outstanding mutual aid system. We also thank the Communications Operators at State Dispatch for all of their assistance.
