Due to the weather the Rome fire parade has been rescheduled to next Saturday October 17th starting at 2pm. The benefit spaghetti dinner is still kicking off tomorrow at 4pm at the proctorville bingo hall

Hey everyone,

We've made the tough call to cancel tomorrow's parade due to weather. I've been watching weather apps and forecasts all day, and tonight I reached out to our friends at the National Weather Service in Charleston and had them run a special forecast for us. They're calling for a 60%+ chance of rain, with a high probability of sudden downpours and a possible storm right after the parade is set to start. This was not an easy decision.

As in years past, we originally had a rain date set for the following Sunday. But today we realized the Rome Beauty Apple Festival's 5K is happening at the same time. So I spent the evening with our department officers and representatives from the Apple Festival working out a plan.

The parade is now rescheduled for Saturday, October 17th. Lineup starts at 1:00 PM and the parade steps off at 2:00 PM. To avoid parking and traffic conflicts with the Apple Festival, lineup is moving from Lock 27 Park to Fairland East Elementary School.

We cancelled out of an abundance of caution, but also because we want this parade to be something the community can actually enjoy, and we want our floats to be able to take part. Several had already backed out because of the threat of rain. If it rains next Saturday, there won't be another makeup date and we'll be back next year.

Even though the parade is off tomorrow, we'd still love for you to join us for the benefit spaghetti dinner for Lt. Shawn Cremeans, starting at 4:00 PM at the Proctorville Bingo Hall. Shawn is recovering well, but he still has a long road ahead and it'll be a while before he can get back to his full-time job. Come out for some good food, a silent auction, and more, and help us show Shawn some support.

I'm sorry for the last-minute notice. Battling the weather is never fun, and this decision wasn't made lightly.

🚒🎉 WOW, PROCTORVILLE! WHAT A TURNOUT! 🎉🚒

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to support our Fire Prevention Parade tonight! We had an amazing turnout, and we hope you all had just as much fun as we did! Seeing so many families, kids, and community members come together makes all the hard work worth it! ❤️💙

🍬 We hope the kids enjoyed the candy haul, and parents, we hope you’re ready for the sugar rush! 😂 Between the sirens, horns, and excitement, we definitely made some noise tonight!

And to everyone who was asking about the parade route on Facebook… we promise there WAS a plan! 🤣🚒 We might have to work on our advertising as much as we work on our candy-throwing skills!

The Proctorville Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Parade is happening tomorrow, October 8th!

Bring the whole family out for an evening of fire trucks, lights, sirens, and community fellowship as we celebrate Fire Prevention Week! 👨‍🚒❤️

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Coal Grove Fire Rescue "The Fightin 400" for inviting us to participate in their 2026 Safety Day!

We had an absolutely fantastic time! Events like this are a great opportunity to come together with our brothers and sisters in the fire service, enjoy some great fellowship, and most importantly, work together to promote fire safety and education throughout our communities.

We truly enjoyed every minute of the day and are grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a great event. Thank you again to the Coal Grove Fire Department for having us—we’re already looking forward to next year! 🚒🔥

🚨 WILDFIRE WARNING – PREPARING FOR FALL BRUSH FIRE SEASON 🚨

As we head into the fall months, we want to remind everyone that fall is a time when the risk of brush fires and wildfires increases. Falling leaves, dry grass, and dead vegetation can quickly become fuel for a fire, allowing flames to spread rapidly, especially during dry and windy conditions.

Our goal is to help everyone prepare for the upcoming fall fire season and take the necessary precautions to protect their homes, families, and our community.

🔥 HERE ARE A FEW IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY REMINDERS:

🍂 Clear dry vegetation: Keep fallen leaves, dead grass, and brush cleared away from homes, garages, sheds, and other structures.

🔥 Use caution with outdoor burning: Before burning leaves or brush, make sure you understand local regulations and current fire conditions. Never burn during dry or windy weather, and never leave a fire unattended.

🚬 Dispose of smoking materials properly: Never throw cigarette butts or other burning materials onto the ground or out of vehicle windows.

🚜 Be mindful of equipment: Sparks from lawn equipment, chainsaws, and other machinery can ignite dry vegetation. Use extra caution when operating equipment near wooded areas.

🌲 Keep your property fire-safe: Remove accumulated leaves and other combustible debris from around your property to help reduce the risk of fire spreading.

On September 6th, Lt. Shawn Cremeans of the Rome Fire Department responded to what initially appeared to be a fire alarm at the Applewood Apartment Complex. Upon arrival, smoke was showing, and Shawn immediately went to work.

What firefighters encountered was ultimately determined to involve a chemical explosion inside a storage building connected to the apartment complex. While attempting to force entry, the explosion occurred, leaving Shawn with severe third-degree burns to both hands.

Since that day, Shawn has undergone multiple surgeries, with many more procedures and a long road to recovery still ahead.

For Shawn, this isn’t just an injury — it’s a life-changing setback. As a firefighter, his hands are a vital part of everything he does. Beyond the physical pain and challenges, there are emotional, financial, and everyday struggles that come with an injury like this.

But Shawn doesn’t have to face this alone.

That’s why we are coming together to host a Spaghetti Benefit Dinner to help support Shawn and his family during this difficult time.
