After two weeks on a TIFMAS deployment, Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Davis has returned home after completing his second week assigned to the Rio Escondido Fire. Firefighter/Paramedic John Arista is now stepping in to continue Prosper Fire Rescue’s support of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) response.

As of Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Texas A&M Forest Service is reporting that the Rio Escondido Fire in Hamilton County has burned 2,713 acres and is 95 percent contained.

111 total structures have burned as a result of this fire, including 19 total residential structures, four of which were occupied residential structures.

Recently, the Town’s live railroad crossing cameras received an upgrade, providing improved live views of BNSF railroad crossings throughout Prosper.

Whether you’re planning your commute or just want to check if a train is passing through, residents can view the live cameras anytime on the Town’s website or through the MyProsper app.

While BNSF operates the railroad and trains, the Town provides these cameras as a convenient way to check crossing conditions before you go!

ALERT: Denton and Collin County Commissioners Courts have issued a mandatory burn ban, effective August 25, 2026, due to severe wildfire risk.

What does this mean for you?

OUTDOOR BURNING
• Burning wood, lumber, leaves, brush, or other combustible materials outdoors is prohibited.
• Discarding lighted or burning materials is prohibited.
• Exceptions may only be authorized by the Collin and Denton County Commissioners Court or County Judge.

OUTDOOR COOKING
Outdoor cooking and open-flame devices are prohibited, with limited exceptions for:
• Propane or natural gas devices with a complete enclosure used at all times.
• Wood or charcoal devices with a complete enclosure and a 5-foot clearance from vegetation, combustible materials, and debris.

WELDING, CUTTING & GRINDING
Strict fire-safety requirements are now in place for both field and enclosed hot work, including:
• Required clearance from vegetation and combustible materials
• Wind and humidity limits
• A dedicated fire watch
• Water-pressure fire extinguishers or a pressurized water source
• The ability to call 911 from the work site

Emergency welding exceptions may be issued by the Fire Marshal when necessary.

Please take these restrictions seriously. Dry conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly, and careless outdoor burning or sparks can result in property damage and additional violations under Texas law.

Registration is now open for neighborhood block parties on Tuesday, October 6, from 5-8 p.m. Gather your neighbors and register for a chance to receive a visit from Prosper Fire Rescue, Prosper Police and Town leadership.

Over the last decade, each of these individuals have demonstrated unwavering commitment, professionalism and passion for serving the citizens of Prosper. Each one has left a lasting impression on their brothers and sisters as well as the community.

Last Thursday, Prosper first responders answered a call for a resident who suffered a heart attack while mowing his yard. Our crews acted quickly to stabilize and transport him to the hospital, where he underwent a successful cardiac procedure and is now recovering.

The story doesn't end when the ambulance leaves.

Noticing the resident’s front lawn was left half-mowed, Battalion Chief Jason Graham quietly grabbed the mower, finished the job, cleaned up the yard, and secured the home before heading back to the station.

Jason didn't do it for recognition, he simply saw a neighbor in need and stepped up. This is what servant leadership looks like in Prosper.

Please join us in thanking Battalion Chief Graham and our dedicated first responders for their extraordinary care, both on and off the clock!
