NOW AVAILABLE: The historic George Summer House!. Nestled in the heart of Newberry, South Carolina, this stunning neo-classical residence was the home of George Summer, a distinguished local entrepreneur of the early 20th century. Summer's ventures, which included the nearby Cotton Mill, the Newberry Hotel, the Newberry Lumber Company, and the Commercial Bank of Newberry, left a significant mark on the community. This architectural gem boasts an impressive portico with Corinthian columns and a charming Juliet balcony. Inside, you'll find beautifully preserved original hardwood floors and extraordinary woodwork that speaks to the home’s rich history. The house features a cozy library or office space complete with a built-in bookcase and a welcoming fireplace. The main floor houses a master suite, while the second floor offers three spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms. The third floor includes a versatile bonus room with a half bath. The sunroom, extending from the master suite, serves as an ideal spot for a den, art studio, or pet's bedroom, offering a view of the surroundings. The expansive basement presents ample possibilities for transformation. With its prime location, just a 5 minute walk from Newberry's historic public square and great restaurants, coffee shops, a popular cigar bar all anchored by the Nationally renowned Newberry Opera House, a true treasure that has been recognized nationally by the League of Historic American Theatres with an Outstanding Theater Award. The 1881 French Gothic structure presents more than 200 events annually that draws approximately 100,000 people a year to Newberry who come to see performances that have ranged from Kris Kristofferson to Don Felder, Joan Baez, and Toni Orlando. The George Summer House is more than just a residence—it's a piece of living history in a community rich in culture, arts, and education, thanks to its opera house, vibrant arts scene, and the presence of a small liberal arts college. It's truly a remarkable place to call home.

This magnificent place has seen the worst from Neglect and abandonment, but its bones are strong and sturdy and still has enough life in her to accept another loving family whose intention is to bring her back to life. I and My friend and Christie’s Colleague Jason Pillar visited this place this week and his video captures the essence of a place that can still serve its new owners. Located near Landrum on 5 acres of pasture land for $150,000.
Might even be eligible for the National register! If this video inspires you, imagine the feeling being in the yard! Contact us for more info and share this post with all

UNDER CONTRACT! This house on the hill at 5213 Hwy 395 was originally built ca 1810 by what we believe was the Elmore Family, whose home is marked on this spot in the 1820 survey for Mills Atlas map of Newberry County. The Elmore's moved to the area from Vermont, joining the Bush River Quaker Settlement in the 18th century. My clients, the Fulmer's, purchased the house 5 years ago and immediately went to work ensuring its history would be remembered. They reversed much of the bad interior "modernization" that had occurred in the last 50 years. Their hard work prepared it for the new owner who has plans to finish what they started. He has plans to fully restore this wonderful place to be something the Elmore's would recognize with replacing the original beaded siding and installing 9/9 windows. It is such a joy to have a job where I get to represent these historic homes and meet so many good people who invest in history.
