We are thrilled to share this year's with you! https://rikidscount.org/factbook/
As our Executive Director Paige Parks shared: "Every element of the Rhode Island KIDS COUNT Factbook is done with intentionality. Each year, the cover art is deeply meaningful and tells a story about that year, milestones, or loved ones that inspired us throughout the writing process. Thank you Gail Greenwood of Greenwood Associates for brilliantly translating [our] deep emotions into beautiful art.
This year’s Factbook is inspired by and dedicated to Rhode Island’s immigrant children. Many thanks to Conexión Latina Newport for your assistance in creating this beautiful image of immigrant children expressing joy and love. In the background is the iconic pine cone of Federal Hill-- La Pigna- a traditional Italian symbol of hospitality, abundance, quality, and welcome. Much like the ancestors of early Italian immigrants, today’s immigrant children and their families have come to the United States as political refugees seeking better economic opportunities.
And in their hands, are hearts- symbols of love- and in those hearts are the words Estamos Aqui which means “We are here". This is a phrase the Latino Policy Institute has adopted to resist the attacks on the Latino community. Latinos have always been here and will continue to be here. Thank you Marcela Betancur at Latino Policy Institute for allowing us to echo your campaign."
As for the data! -- Rhode Island’s children and families continue to experience both progress and persistent challenges. This year’s Factbook highlights areas of improvement in health and education, alongside increasing economic strain, ongoing racial and ethnic disparities, and emerging concerns about the availability of data needed to inform policy and decision-making.
Ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive will require sustained attention to equity, economic stability, and the use of reliable data to guide decision-making.
