Providence Fire Department Special Hazards

Providence Fire Department Special Hazards Providence RI Fire Department's Only Heavy Rescue Special Hazards is the only Heavy Rescue in the City of Providence, RI. And we DON'T do HAZMAT!

That means SH-1 responds to all structure fires in the city, auto extrications, any technical rescue; confined space, high angle, collapse and water rescues, gas emergencies, stuck elevators, children locked in autos, and the occasional dog stuck in a fence... We do it all.

Special Hazards along with the entire Providence Fire Dept, offer our most sincere condolences to our brother and sister firefighters in our sister city of Worcester on the Line of Duty Death of Lt Jason Menard of Ladder Company 5.
Lt Menard was killed while attempting to search for a missing baby, and subsequently successfully saving the members of his company.
Lt Menard performed in the most heroic of ways in the attempt to save civilians and his company.
RIP Loo. May God Bless your wife and children.

Special Hazards would like to congratulate FF Paul Doughty on his retirement from the Providence Fire Dept after 32 years.
Paul was L799’s union president for over a dozen years and saw the membership through some trying times.
Paul was also assigned to Special Hazards 1 for over 20 years of his 32 year career. He was instrumental in bringing technical rescue to the company and was a hell of a firefighter. Paul was also deployed numerous times as part of MATF1 including 9/11 and Katrina.
From the members of SH1, have a long and safe retirement.

Members of SH1 and Ladder 5 worked to extricate the driver of this auto accident early Saturday morning. Members removed the door and performed a modified dash lift to lift the dash off the victim. Members also had to cut the drivers seat to free the victim. Great job to all those involved.
