Throwback to Tuesday’s State House Tour! It was a BUSY day at the People’s House. We met Senator Meghan Kallman who walked us through the process of getting a bill sponsored while we checked out hundreds-year-old tomes in the library. Later Representative Megan Cotter met us in the Charter Museum (did you know the SH is chock full of incredible artifacts?) to discuss ethically and fairly representing constituents even if you don’t always personally agree with them—an indicator of true integrity and commitment to democracy. After the tour we sat in the balcony to watch a session, participated in a candy election to learn about Ranked Choice Voting, and sat in on a hearing about the new budget. Truly an enlightening civics adventure!

We'll probably do more tours in the future because there's always more to learn and be inspired by. And who knows? Maybe one of our RCC members will run for office soon and make it all the way to the State House! 👀 That may or may not be a topic of a future meeting…

Come to Machines with Magnets on Monday, 20 October at 6pm for our fourth meeting! Local experts are going to teach us all about education policy & advocacy in Rhode Island, including how you can get involved. Since it’s also the spooky/scary season, costumes are welcome and encouraged (and not required)!
