Join naturalists from the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the Providence Urban Wildlife Conservation Partnership for free GUIDED BIRDING on Tuesday, December 30th, at India Point Park. The outing will be 9:30-10:30 am. We will have Wednesday, December 31, 9:30-10:30 am as the rain/ snow date.

This lovely park is a good place to look for the winter water birds who congregate on the open water searching for food in their wintering grounds. The area has a rich history as well, so we will also discuss a bit of that as we look out at the landmarks.

Know Before You Go:
· Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.
· We will meet next to the small parking area off India Street, across from the Narragansett Brewery.
· As we travel, we will hug the water, with stops at the decks and good vantage points to see who might be in the water or flying above it. Much of the path is paved, and is relatively flat.
· We encourage you to walk, bicycle, ride the bus or carpool to our meeting spot if you are able.
-The RIPTA bus route #92 stops on Wickenden Street before East Street. Then walk down East Street past Vartan Gregorian Elementary to the pedestrian bridge that will take you into India Point Park.
· If driving, there is often room in the parking lot, or you may park along India Street near the entrance to the lot.
· If you are able to bring your own equipment - binoculars and field guides – please do so. We will bring some extra binoculars and fold-out field guides.

We acknowledge that this land we will explore is the traditional, ancestral and contemporary lands of the Narragansett, Wampanoag, and Pokanoket nations.
We are grateful to these local indigenous nations for being the first to steward these lands and waters, and for continuing that stewardship in the present and into the future.

We had a great time participating in the Stormwater Innovation Center's 2025 Rain Harvest Festival.

We had tons of fun sharing information about the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. The big question of the day was: What can YOU do to help the Marine National Monument?

Let us know what you think in the comments!

Banding together for bird conservation!

On Saturday, September 20th, we kicked off our fall Birding Programs with our Bird Banding Demonstration event hosted in partnership with the Audubon Society of Rhode Island at Roger Williams Park. Bird banding lets scientists safely track bird migration patterns and provides an opportunity to collect data on each bird’s age, s*x, weight, and wing length. This info helps track migration patterns and keeps tabs on bird populations over time-- all with the help of a tiny, lightweight band placed on the bird's leg!

Our star of the day? The cheerful black-capped chickadee—these little fluffballs are known to travel in flocks, so spotting just them wasn’t a surprise!
We'd like to give a special shout out to the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center and Community Garden for letting us use the space and for supporting our bird conservation mission.

This event is part of our monthly Bird Walk series, hosted with Audubon and sponsored by the Providence Urban Wildlife Conservation Partnership. Stay tuned for details on the next walk—you won’t want to miss it!
