RI Cape Verdean Heritage Mourns the Passing of José “Djosinha” Duarte 💔
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of José “Djosinha” Duarte, a true icon of Cabo Verdean culture and one of the most beloved ambassadors of our music and heritage.
Born in São Vicente, Djosinha began performing at the age of seven and went on to build a remarkable career spanning nearly 70 years. Known as the “Showman” for his charisma, energy, and unforgettable stage presence, he brought the sounds of Cabo Verde to audiences around the world and helped preserve our rich musical traditions for generations.
A talented musician, soccer player, and radio host, Djosinha dedicated his life to celebrating and promoting Cabo Verdean culture both at home and throughout the diaspora.
RI Cape Verdean Heritage had the pleasure and honor of recognizing Djosinha at our Annual Cabo Verdean Independence Festival a few years ago. We were proud to celebrate his lifetime of achievements and his immeasurable contributions to our community. His passion, humility, and love for Cabo Verde left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.
As we mourn this tremendous loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fans, the people of São Vicente, and Cabo Verdean communities throughout the world.
Thank you, Djosinha, for sharing your extraordinary talent and for being a shining example of Cabo Verdean pride. Your music, legacy, and spirit will live on forever.
