Provo District Schools are back in session tomorrow! Here are some road safety tips for students walking or riding to school.

WALKING:
- Saferoutes.utah.gov shows the safest way to get to your school.
- Use sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.
- Stop, look, listen & wait for vehicles & bikes before crossing a road.
- At school crossings, follow the guard's lead.

PEDAL BIKES & PUSH SCOOTERS:
- Obey road rules.
- Sidewalk speed is under 10 MPH.
- Yield to pedestrians.
- Wear a helmet!

ELECTRIC BIKES CLASS 1&2:
- Under 8, not permitted.
- 8-15 yr olds may only ride e-bike with guardian supervision or safety certificate.
- Under 21, helmets required.

ELECTRIC SCOOTERS:
- Under 16 cannot ride on the road.
- 8-15 yr olds may only ride with guardian supervision.
- Under 21, helmets required.

***RIDERS OF ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES MUST HAVE A DRIVER LICENCE, REGISTRATION & INSURANCE***

After a few bear sightings along our east bench throughout the day, a bit of a bear hunt ensued with Animal Control, Patrol, and our drone team. Smokey Jr was spotted near 1600 N and 1450 E this evening where it was safely cornered until our friends over at DWR could tranquillize Smokey Jr for relocation. Thanks to our residents for keeping watch and reporting to us. Great work to all involved!

Today marks 20 years since the loss of Officer Trent Halladay, who died July 22nd, 2006. We honor and remember him, and well as his family.

During his service, Officer Halladay was assigned to the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force where he worked undercover battling the rising number of m**hamphetamine labs in Utah County.

In January 2006, Trent was diagnosed with liver cancer, which was attributed to his exposure to m**h labs during his time on the Task Force.
He died six months after his diagnosis.

Officer Halliday is survived by his wife Lisa and their sons Colton and Cooper.
He is laid to rest in Salem City Cemetary.

We love and support our brothers and sisters at Provo Fire, and send our deepest condolences to them as well as the Long family and their loved ones.

We are absolutely heartbroken by the death of Captain Spencer Long and his family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family and the ongoing official process, we will not be commenting further at this time.

VEHICLE & E-MOTORCYLE ACCIDENT

Just after 4:30 pm Friday July 10th, 2026, Provo Police officers responded to a traffic accident at the intersection on 600 West Center Street. A 17 year old teen riding an e-motorcycle northbound on 600 West, had been struck by a vehicle traveling east along Center St.

The juvenile was transported to Utah Valley Hospital in critical condition, and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators.

Our Traffic Accident team responded to the location to conduct their investigation, reducing the flow of east and westbound traffic to one lane in each direction. They remain on scene at the time of this release, and the investigation is ongoing.
