At 92 years old, Bob Nave continues to make a remarkable difference in our community.

More than 20 years ago, Bob began volunteering at the Food & Care Coalition. When he realized local stores were throwing away perfectly good food, he took action. Today, twice each week, Bob fills his pickup truck with donated milk, produce, bread, and other food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it to the Coalition to help feed our patrons.

For Bob, it's more than volunteering—it's a labor of love and a legacy of service that began in childhood and continues today.

Thank you, Bob, for reminding us that one person can change a community—one act of service at a time.

Accessing medical care can be a challenge for many people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship.
Transportation, cost, and navigating the healthcare system can all become barriers.

Through our partnership with Mountainlands Community Health Center, the Food & Care Coalition helps remove those barriers by bringing medical and dental care directly to our patrons on-site.

As a federally qualified health center, Mountainlands provides primary medical care, helping individuals receive consistent, quality healthcare without the need to travel to another facility.
In addition, our on-site dental clinic provides essential services, including cleanings, fillings, and extractions, at no cost.

This partnership represents something we believe deeply: caring for the whole person means addressing more than hunger and housing. It means making sure people have access to the healthcare they need to move forward.

Thank you to Mountainlands Community Health Center for helping provide compassionate care and removing barriers for our community.

Ever wondered what a Case Manager does at the Food & Care Coalition?

"We're nudgers," shared Amanda, one of our Case Managers. "Our job is to build a relationship with someone so they feel they can trust and rely on us for support."

When someone enters our transitional housing program, having a safe place to live is just the beginning. From there, our Case Managers work one-on-one with each resident to identify goals, overcome barriers, and move from crisis toward lasting stability and independence.

Every person's journey is different, so the support they receive is tailored to their individual goals and needs. It might mean building a résumé, practicing interview skills, obtaining vital documents, finding permanent housing, or coordinating care with partners like Wasatch Behavioral Health.

But beyond the practical help, it means having someone who believes in them, encourages them, and gently "nudges" them forward when the journey feels overwhelming.

Real change rarely happens overnight. It happens one conversation, one goal, one small victory at a time.

Thank you to our incredible Case Management team for helping our residents build confidence, regain independence, and create a path toward a brighter future—one nudge at a time.

Did you know that 90% of the Food & Care Coalition's support comes directly from our community?

Individuals, families, businesses, churches, foundations, and civic organizations make it possible for us to provide meals, housing support, mental health services, case management, and so much more.

Less than 10% of our funding comes from government sources, which means the work happening every day at the Coalition is made possible by people who care about their neighbors.

Whether you donate, volunteer, share our mission, or attend one of our events, you're helping create paths forward for those we serve.

Thank you for being part of our community.

For many people, a meal is just the beginning. For those seeking additional support, the next step is meeting with Ella, our Client Services Manager, for an intake interview.

During that conversation, we learn about their unique circumstances and begin creating a personalized plan for moving forward.

Because every person's situation is unique, every path forward is unique as well. The more we understand their circumstances, the better we can connect them with the resources that will help them move forward.

Ann may work behind the scenes, but her impact is felt every day.

As the Coalition’s Data Manager, she helps provide the information needed for HUD and other partner organizations while making sure the work happening here is accurately documented.

But ask Ann why she loves her job, and the answer isn’t about numbers—it’s about people. She enjoys getting to know our patrons and is grateful to be part of an organization that’s making a difference in the community.

Every role at the Coalition helps move our mission forward.

Fred's Story

Today, Fred works at the Food & Care Coalition as a Certified Peer Support Specialist with Wasatch Behavioral Health, helping others find hope and healing. But not long ago, he was the one in need of help.

After years of success as a business owner, poor choices and substance abuse cost Fred everything - his business, his finances, his marriage, and ultimately his home.

When he came to the Food & Care Coalition, he found more than a meal. Through the support of our team and Wasatch Behavioral Health, Fred made the decision to change his life.

Today, he uses his own experiences to encourage and mentor others who are walking the same difficult path. His story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, hope is real, and every person deserves the opportunity to begin a new path forward.

Housing Solutions, Part 2: Candlelight Villas

For some individuals, the next step isn't just temporary housing, it's a permanent place to call home.

Opened in 2022, Candlelight Villas is a community of 72 fully furnished, one-bedroom apartments located just behind the Food and Care Coalition's main campus.

Residents receive more than housing. They have ongoing support through case management and access to on-site partners who help them continue building stable, independent lives.

Permanent supportive housing provides the foundation many people need to maintain housing, improve their well-being, and move forward with confidence.
Because everyone deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and at home.

Happy Pioneer Day from all of us at the Food and Care Coalition!

Pioneer Day celebrates resilience, determination, and the strength of people coming together to build a better future. Those same values continue to inspire the work we do every day.

We're grateful for the volunteers, donors, community partners, and staff who help provide meals, housing support, case management, and hope to our patrons throughout the year.

Thank you for being part of a community that believes everyone deserves the opportunity to move forward.

Have a safe and happy Pioneer Day!
