REMINDER/REFRESHER:
TEMPORARY SIGN REMOVAL POLICY
WHEREAS the Roscommon County Board of Road Commissioners desires to maintain the road system under its jurisdiction free of obstacles and encumbrances that adversely affect both the safety and maintenance of said system; and
WHEREAS the placement of temporary signs in the road Right of Way has been determined to be a major source of the obstacles and encumbrances; and
WHEREAS temporary signs placed in the road Right of Way create both a safety hazard to the motorizing public and deterrent to efficient maintenance of same by road commission staff;
THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED that effective April 15, 2014, this policy will take effect.
• Verify MDOT Policy on its Roads and enforce same at their direction as Maintenance Contract County.
• Remove all temporary signs within marked clear vision areas.
• Remove all temporary signs that interfere with the sight distance for vehicles at intersections and commercial driveways.
• Remove all temporary signs on County Primary and Local Roads within the R.O.W. or if not known, either in front of existing utility pole lines or in front of the top of the back slope of the ditch.
• No Notification prior to removal of unpermitted signs is needed. If possible RCRC employees will notify sign owners that they have been removed and location where they can be retrieved.
• It remains the responsibility of the person(s) placing the sign to obtain any necessary prior approval from the abutting property owner and may be subject to township ordinances.
• All removed signs should be stored at the RCRC Central Garage and if not claimed within seven calendar days, disposed of prior to the weekly dumpster pick up date.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, this document serves as direction for RCRC staff for enforcement of the adopted policy. A copy of this approved policy is to be submitted to the Roscommon County Clerk, each of the Township Boards and local law enforcement agencies.
