💧 A high water bill could be a sign of Overwatering—or a Leak!

Here are two things to check:
1️⃣ Over 30,000 gallons of usage?
You may have entered the Districts’ newest 4th Conservation billing tier. This tier is designed to encourage efficient Prairie-Smart watering practices.
2️⃣ Check for leaks.
Look for broken sprinkler heads, stuck valves, or other abnormalities. Don’t forget to check your toilets and indoor plumbing too!

The gardeners are at the garden every Friday morning, tending the plants, pulling weeds, and keeping this beautiful space growing. It's the perfect opportunity to see what native and water-wise plants look like in a real landscape, ask questions, and gather ideas for your own yard.

Underground leaks can go unnoticed for months before water ever appears above ground.
In our area, with shale and plenty of burrowing animals like ground squirrels, moles, voles, gophers, and prairie dogs, water often follows the path of least resistance—moving sideways or deeper underground instead of surfacing right away.
If you spot something that doesn't look quite right, a quick report to the Water Department could help us find and repair a hidden leak before it becomes a bigger problem. 719-547-3554 or [email protected]

After a significant rainfall, skip your next irrigation cycle or two and let Mother Nature do the watering. Most cool-season lawns only need 1–1½ inches of water per week—and that includes rainfall.

✅ Use the Rain Delay feature on your irrigation controller.
✅ Check the soil—if it's still moist a few inches down, your lawn doesn't need more water yet.

Every skipped watering saves water, reduces runoff, and helps protect Pueblo West's limited drinking water supply.
