Join Professor Thomas Mattarocci for a discussion of immigration at the start of the twentieth century and the Titanic's role in this process.

He'll discuss the third-class accommodations onboard the ship and the fates of several immigrant passengers. As a bonus, library staff will cover library resources you can use to research your immigrant ancestors!

🎨 Meet DeadhandArt: Our Next Artist in Residence!

DEADHAND is a surrealist painter and Pueblo native whose colorful, symbolic works invite us to question our perception of life and death. Her distinctive style draws from dreams and meditation, and her journey is inspiring.

As a teenager, she sustained nerve damage that limited her hand mobility. Rather than let it stop her, she turned obstacles into art. "If I didn't become an artist, I would regret it for the rest of my life," she says.

Her Achievements:
✨ Multiple first-place award winner
✨ BFA in Fine Art, CSU Pueblo (Summa Cum Laude, 2021)
✨ INSITE Fund Grant recipient (Andy Warhol Foundation, 2025)
✨ 15 solo exhibitions since 2018
✨ Pueblo Levee Muralist (world's largest mural project)

Come share in the story and see the Pueblo Proud narrative come to life in this community-created art exhibition featuring seven artists' murals and 136 community tiles!

Led by local Chicano and Indigenous artists, Jazzelle Bustos, Katrina Urenda, and Celesté Velasquez, the "Past, Present, Paint!" visual storytelling workshops offered a lesson in how contemporary artists participate in the tradition of visual storytelling. Those who gathered learned about the heritage behind some of Pueblo's public murals, had a brief art lesson, and personalized canvas tiles that have been added to the "Past, Present, Paint!" mini-mural exhibition. Bringing memories, creativity, and love for the community to life, participants made their mark on the library's legacy.
