U.S. Army Sgt. Callista Prill was ready to go when the Colorado Army National Guard was activated in response to the Marshall Fire that destroyed nearly 1,000 homes and burned more than 6,000 acres near Boulder, Colorado on December 30, 2021.

“Our unit is spread out throughout the entire state of Colorado but we're able to come together and help this community out. It shows who we are as a state and shows who we are as people,” Prill said. “Personally I can't even imagine what some of them are going through right now having lost everything in this fire. We want to show them that they are not alone - we are here.”

For Prill, being a part of the response team for this fire resonates on a personal level.

“This has been a reminder of why I joined,” Prill said. “When my family was affected by the Black Forest Fire I saw how the National Guard helped and came to the aid and assistance during that fire.”

Prill was one of the initial 56 Soldiers activated from the 220th Military Police Company.

“Everyone who's lived in Colorado has been affected by fire one way or another,” Prill said. “So it's been an honor and full circle rewarding for me to be able to get back and bring some peace of mind to these families.”
