As many families settle into the flow of the school year it’s a great time to remember that we ALL lean towards STRUCTURE or NURTURE naturally.

🗝️The key is to find a way to increase whichever one is your weaker point. If you tend to be more structured, INCREASE the nurture! If you tend to be more nurturing, INCREASE the structure!

THIS is how we avoid permissive or authoritarian parenting and find a way to be authoritative.

Remember: your child (or teenager, or young adult) is not GIVING YOU a hard time, they are HAVING a hard time,
When we can flip our perspective, we can flip our response. If I believe my teen is having a hard time, I posture myself to offer support. If I believe my teen is giving me a hard time, I posture myself defensively. Stay curious and move towards connection.
