This is welcome news for Pueblo County and an important milestone in our recovery from the Aspen Acres Fire.

President Trump has approved FEMA Public Assistance for communities impacted by this devastating fire. We are waiting on the details of the approval, but this is encouraging news for Pueblo County and our residents. The assistance can help support critical recovery work, including debris removal, emergency response, damaged roads, water systems, utilities and other essential public infrastructure.

We are grateful to everyone who sent letters, made calls and advocated for our community. Your voices mattered.

As the Pueblo County Board of County Commissioners, we will continue working with our state and federal partners to make sure Pueblo County receives every available resource to support our recovery.

But our work is not finished. Families lost homes, property and livelihoods, and additional assistance remains under review.

Our recovery continues, and Pueblo County will continue standing together.

Pueblo County Government offices will be closed at Noon Friday, Sept. 4, 2026 and closed all day Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 in observance Labor Day.

Please note:

• All County recreation centers will be open for normal hours Friday, but closed Monday.

• This closure does not affect emergency services or law enforcement operations, which will continue as usual.

🍃 Pardon our Dust! Pueblo County Parks and Recreation and Colorado State Forest Service will begin the Fire Mitigation Project at Rye Mountain Park. This project helps reduce wildfire risk in our community. 🪾
Please be aware that equipment will be mobilized into the park on Thursday and Friday, September 3 and 4.
🌲 Phase 1 will be from September 7 to November 7.

What this means for Rye Mountain Park visitors:
🟢 The area north of Greenhorn Creek, including Pavilion 3, will remain open for recreational use (in green on the map).
🔴 The area south of Greenhorn Creek, including Pavilion 1, Pavilion 2, and the disc golf course, will be closed to the public (in red on the map).
Previously permitted rentals for Pavilion1 and 2 will continue as scheduled. However, only Pavilion 3 will be available for the rest of the season.

Important Clarification:
To be clear, the County has no plans to pull all funding from the Runyon Sports Complex. In fact, over the past few years, the County has invested roughly $5 million to improve the facility, including adding new turf, upgrading lighting, and making other major enhancements that keep the Complex vibrant and ready for our community.

Right now, the Board of County Commissioners is discussing the staffing model at Runyon, just as they are with several other County programs. These conversations are simply about determining whether staff should report directly to the County or to the Runyon Board of Directors. While there may be some adjustments in 2027, our commitment to Runyon’s core mission remains unchanged.

The heart of Runyon, its youth programs, its teams, and its role as a gathering place for families, will continue. The Sports Complex will remain a cornerstone of our community for years to come.
