246 Fire Update:
6/5/2026 4:25pm
Size: 7.4 acres
Cause: natural; lightning
Location: 5.7 miles Southwest of Lake George, Park County, South Park Ranger District
Containment: 50%

The USFS and multiple resources from other local agencies have stopped all forward progression of the 246 Fire and fire line has been established around the fires edge. The 246 Fire is currently 50% contained.

Indirect tactics were utilized for firefighter safety and to conduct a back burn which allows for more favorable control features such as roads, rock outcroppings, or open fields, to be used to secure the fires perimeter.

Firefighters will continue mop-up operations into the evening and throughout the weekend.

A reminder to the public that heavy fire traffic remains in the area and one should proceed with caution. Lingering smoke may still be visible for multiple days within the surrounding area due to smoldering fuels.

As we head into the holiday weekend, here is a quick reminder that we are still in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands. Hereโ€™s what this means:

๐Ÿšซ No campfires at dispersed camping sites.

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Campfires are allowed ONLY in developed recreation sites in permanent metal or concrete fire pits or grates provided by the U.S. Forest Service.

๐Ÿซ• Devices solely fueled by liquid or gas that can be turned on and off may be used in dispersed camping areas. Clear at least three feet of flammable materials above and around the stove/grill.

๐Ÿšญ Smoke ONLY in an enclosed vehicle, in a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area that is at least three feet in diameter and clear of all flammable material. Be sure to fully extinguish your cigarette and dispose of it properly.

Sharpe Fire update (Colorado) 5/21/2026 9:00am:
Size: 16,240 acres burned in Colorado
Containment: 100% (containment reported in this post is only for the fire area within the state of Colorado)

With the Colorado side of the Sharpe fire being 100% contained, many of the crews are demobilizing and returning home. The community can expect to see a few remaining fire engines and overhead in the area as they continue to patrol the firelines and looking for any additional hot spots in the interior of the fire footprint.
