Did you know that today is National Mascot Day? It’s an annual celebration recognizing the characters, animals, and figures that bring energy, team spirit, and a little bit of good luck wherever they go!🥳📣☘️

That makes today the perfect day to introduce myself—I'm Gage, MxV Rail's newest summer intern! I’m currently studying Civil Engineering and I’m excited to apply my skills to special trackwork in the rail industry some day.

MxV Rail has recently welcomed a team of six summer interns coming from engineering schools all over the country to discover the magic of rail research! I’ll be following along with them as they tackle projects, solve problems, and discover the innovation, research, and teamwork that help MxV Rail move the rail industry forward. I may be a little biased, but I’m especially looking forward to working on the One Way Low Speed (OWLS!) diamond testing at FAST® -- a great example of how track structure, components, and geometry work together!💠🛤️

I've heard there will be plenty of exciting adventures, hands-on learning experiences, and opportunities to meet some incredible people along the way. I can't wait to see what goes on behind the scenes and share what I learn throughout the summer.

Follow along as I spread my wings and join the interns on their journey. It's going to be a hoot! 🦉🚂

We continue our observance of National Safety Month with a spotlight on Lead Test Controller, Justin Penrod. 🦺✅

Why Do I Stay Safe?

For Justin, safety is more than a workplace requirement—it's a mindset that begins each morning and carries through every part of his day. With nearly 15 years at MxV Rail and seven years at BNSF, Justin brings extensive experience and a strong commitment to safety to his role.

As Lead Test Controller, his mission is simple: perform testing safely and efficiently, every time.

💬 “Ever since I was a kid, I remember reading the words on my dad’s work bag: ‘Look. Listen. Live.’ Being aware of your surroundings, watching out for those around you, and knowing how to identify hazards and defects is what we do every day.”

Justin believes that when safety comes first, success follows. Staying safe allows him to spend more time doing what he enjoys most with family and friends—whether that's fishing, hunting, or traveling.

One question helps keep safety top of mind: 💬 “Was I safe today, or was I just lucky?”

At MxV Rail, safety is intentional—because doing the right thing today helps protect what matters most tomorrow. 🚆💪

🚨 It’s National Safety Month, and we’re highlighting members of Team MxV Rail who help make safety a core part of our culture.

Meet Tomas Perez, Senior Auditor with the Bureau of Explosives (BOE), who has been part of the team since 2019. As a field inspector, Tomas and his colleagues in the BOE and Mechanical Inspection Department (MID) spend countless hours on the road. Beyond leading by example, Tomas helps promote a strong safety culture by sharing monthly safety topics focused on defensive driving, situational awareness, and safe travel practices. 🚗

💬 “I am committed to staying safe at work and during travel to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.”

For Tomas, safety is about more than the workplace—it’s about protecting the moments that matter most.

💬 “Being safe at work and home allows me the opportunity to have new travel adventures with the people I love.”

Thank you, Tomas, for helping keep safety at the forefront every day. At MxV Rail, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s personal. 🚆❤️
