Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, two deputies made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Puckett. During the encounter, Puckett opened fire on the responding deputies. Deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were struck by gunfire. One deputy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and is currently receiving medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition.

Michael Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. A coordinated law enforcement search is currently underway.

A word from the wise.

A word from the wise.

Not everything on shift deserves your energy.

You’re not always going to be able to change the environment around you, but you can change how much access it has to you.

A lot of people try to fight negativity head-on. They argue it, push back on it, or try to correct it in real time. Most of the time, that just pulls them deeper into it.

Because what you engage with, you reinforce.

Every time you step into it, match the tone, or react emotionally, you’re adding to it, even if that’s not your intention.

A different approach is being more intentional about when you engage and when you don’t.

Not every comment needs a response, and not every situation needs your energy. Sometimes the most effective thing you can do is stay steady and not add fuel to it.

That doesn’t mean ignoring problems. It means choosing where your energy actually makes a difference.

It won’t fix everything overnight, but it protects your mindset, and that’s where it starts.

Where are you giving energy on shift that isn’t actually helping anything?

Today is not about barbecues, sales, or a long weekend.
It is about honoring the brave men and women who gave everything for this country and the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Memorial Day is a reminder that freedom is never free.
Behind every flag waving proudly is the sacrifice of Americans who answered the call, stood for something bigger than themselves, and never came home.
Today we remember the fallen.
We honor their courage.
And we stand proud to be Americans because of the legacy they left behind.
May we never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. 🇺🇸
