At approximately 7:58 on Thursday October 2026, your Pulaski Fire Department and Pulaski Police Department PSOs were dispatched to 1040 Woodland Drive for a residential fire alarm. The residents advised of smoke coming from the HVAC vents. Units arrived and located a fire underneath the residence in the crawl space. The fire was quickly extinguished with minor damage to the structure. PFD units remained on scene to check for fire extensions and to ventilate the smoke. Working smoke detectors inside the residence alerted the residents early, giving PFD the best chance to extinguish the fire before major damage could occur. Due to a back order on fire alarms from the State of Tennessee "Get Alarmed Program", call PFD at 931-363-1515 to get on the waiting list for free smoke detectors. A special thanks goes out to Pulaski Electric System, Giles Co EMS, and Giles E-911 for the assistance during this call.

Staying warm during this cold snap? If you're using a fireplace or wood-burning stove to stay warm, please remember that they can create fire hazards. Remember:

-Inspect your stove and chimney before using.

-Open the damper near the stove before starting a fire.

-Burn only dry, well-seasoned wood.

-Don't burn trash in a stove; doing so can start a chimney fire.

-NEVER douse gasoline, kerosene, or any flammable fluid on wood for a quick fire!

🥶 As we start turning on our furnaces to take the chill out of the house, carbon monoxide (CO) safety becomes even more important!
CO is an odorless, colorless gas that can be deadly. As temperatures drop, take a few minutes to make sure your home is protected:
✅ Test all CO alarms to make sure they are working.
✅ Inspect alarms and replace batteries or units as needed.
✅ Make sure CO alarms are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.
✅ Have your furnace and heating system inspected and serviced regularly.
🚨 Remember: You can’t see or smell carbon monoxide, but a working CO alarm can save lives!

- Ovens weren't designed to heat homes and won't heat a home efficiently.
- Using an oven or stove as a heating source creates a fire and burn hazard for residents in home.
- Heating an apartment or home with an oven that's on and open can also emit dangerous pollutants and gases such as carbon monoxide into your home.
In the end, you're putting yourself and your loved ones potentially at serious risk by using an oven as a heating source.
