Congrats to all those who graduated high school tonight or graduate tomorrow.

Enjoy your night and weekend. You’ve earned. Tonight is the first day of the rest of your life.

All we ask is that you remember to make good life decisions while out and celebrating. We want you to stay safe. The last thing we want to do is respond to a call where you have been hurt or killed, making your family have to plan your funeral rather than get you ready for college or your next steps.

Sheriff Purvis is the definition of "Actions show more than words". He is constantly going above and beyond for not only his employees but the whole community. Although posts are made to show examples of some of the things he does, his actions aren't done because he wants praise or because it is an election year. It's because of who he is. There is so much that he does behind the scenes and doesn't want recognized for it.

We are proud to work alongside Sheriff Purvis as he continues to help improve Giles County in so many ways.

May 10–16 is National Police Week.

Law enforcement is often a thankless job. Like all emergency services, when law enforcement arrives on scene, it usually means someone is either having a bad day or is about to have one.

Unlike fire and EMS, however, the police badge is often met with fear, frustration, hostility, or the assumption that they are “the bad guys.” What many people do not always see is the person behind that badge.

Behind the badge are men and women who will run toward gunfire when others are running away. They step into unknown and dangerous situations to protect others. They help secure scenes so fire and EMS can do our jobs as safely as possible. They stand between chaos and the people trying to help.

Yes, there are times when arrests have to be made and citations have to be written. Those moments are not always pleasant for anyone involved. But law enforcement does so much more than that.

They take time to show a child their patrol car and may even turn on the lights just to bring out a smile. They assist EMS on a wide variety of calls, often with minimal medical training, but still willing to jump in and help however they can. They comfort families during heartbreaking moments. They notify loved ones of loss. They handle the calls most people never see and carry the weight of situations most people will never fully understand.

We may bicker like siblings, with EMS being the younger and occasionally annoying sibling, but at the end of the day, we have each other’s backs.

May 6-12 is National Nurse's Week.

Nurses are there in the quiet moments and the chaotic ones. They hold hands, give medications, explain what is happening, listen to fears, advocate for patients, comfort families, catch changes early, and carry the emotional weight of days most people never see.

Their work is not just clinical. It is deeply human.

EMS and nursing may work in different parts of the healthcare world, but we share the same mission: caring for people when they need help the most.

To every nurse who has stayed late, skipped a meal, cried in the breakroom, celebrated a patient’s recovery, comforted a grieving family, or gone home wondering if they did enough: please know that your work matters.

You are seen, valued, and appreciated.

To continue our appreciate month, May 3-9 was National Correctional Officer's Week.

Correctional officers and jail staff carry a difficult responsibility that many people never see. They work long hours, manage unpredictable situations, maintain safety and order, and serve in an environment that requires constant awareness, patience, professionalism, and courage.

Their work is not always visible to the public, but it is deeply important to the safety and function of our communities.

To all correctional officers, jailers, dispatchers, medical staff, administrators, and support personnel working behind the walls: thank you for your dedication, service, and sacrifice.

We appreciate you.

May is a big month for medical and first responder appreciation. And although we appreciate each and every person every day of the year, every May there are days (and in some cases weeks) set aside to point out and appreciate the different fields.

May 4th was International Firefighter's Day. All of our firefighters are greatly appreciated each and every day. Whether it be for a paid service like Pulaski Tennessee Fire Department or Volunteer like Giles County Fire & Rescue, these men and women give up their time to care for our community. We also can't forget Pulaski Police's PSOs or Ardmore Fire & Rescue. In a small town, firefighters are more than just the people who show up when the tones drop. They are our neighbors, coworkers, friends, family members, coaches, church members, and the folks you see at the gas station one minute and on an emergency scene the next.

They answer calls at all hours, in all weather, and in every kind of situation imaginable. Fires, wrecks, storms, medical calls, rescues, and the occasional “you won’t believe this” call are all part of the job.

We are thankful for every firefighter who serves our community and for the teamwork we get to share with them on scene.
