🚨 SCAM ALERT — PLEASE READ & PLEASE SHARE 🚨

We have seen an increase in scam calls, and we want everyone to know the warning signs.

Scammers may:

Tell you that you have a warrant and must pay immediately.
Claim they have kidnapped or are holding a loved one and demand money.
Pretend they love you or want a relationship and then ask for money.
Threaten to share private or embarrassing photos unless you pay them.
Ask you to confirm or provide personal or financial information.

THESE ARE SCAMS. DO NOT FALL FOR THEM.

❌ DO NOT give them money.
❌ DO NOT buy or send gift cards.
❌ DO NOT provide or confirm personal, banking, or identifying information.
❌ DO NOT stay on the phone because they threaten or pressure you.

A legitimate police department will NOT demand payment with gift cards and will NOT threaten you into paying money over the phone.

☎️ YOU CAN HANG UP.

If someone claims to be from law enforcement, a government agency, or says a loved one is in danger, we will be more than happy to let you hang up and verify it yourself. Call your local police department using a phone number you know is legitimate, or go directly to the police station.

Scammers rely on fear, urgency, embarrassment, and emotion to keep you from thinking clearly.

HANG UP. DON’T SEND MONEY.

Please share this with your friends, family members, neighbors, and especially anyone who may be vulnerable to these types of scams.

These scams can sound convincing, but the threats are designed to scare you into acting. Don’t give them the chance. HANG UP.

07/06/2026

This morning the Asotin County Board of County Commissioners enacted Ordinance 26-22 Declaring an Emergency and Suspending Any Type of Fires/Open Burning in the Unincorporated Ares of Asotin County. Exceptions include propane and charcoal, and fires in approved fire pits on Chief Timothy Island.

Effective immediately all fires, open burning, and fireworks are hereby suspended until a further Ordinance is adopted lifting this suspension.

All Fire Agencies want to keep area communities safe from fire risk by reducing the number of human-caused wildfires. We want to do our part to keep our air quality as smoke free as possible. Breathing smoke affects the respiratory system and is especially harmful to everyone and most especially, younger, and elderly generations, and those with heart and respiratory conditions.

Please read the full Ordinance for more detailed information.
