Last weekend, these community members braved the cold weather to attend our Confluence Crew volunteer training along the South Fork Palouse River in Pullman.

Eight attendees participated in hands-on water quality monitoring sessions covering visual observations, chemical testing, and biological surveys. Volunteers also learned how the data they collect contributes to understanding water quality concerns in Whitman County. Through Confluence Crew, volunteers collect significantly more water quality data points across the watershed than our staff are able to gather alone, making their work an important part of local watershed monitoring efforts.

Thank you to everyone who spent a cold Sunday outdoors with us to support these water quality monitoring efforts - we're very excited to welcome you to the Confluence Crew program!

In late April, over 100,000 people across the globe participated in the four-day City Nature Challenge bioblitz. With over 76,000 species documented and nearly 6,000 of those considered rare, endangered, or threatened, these observations contribute to our understanding of global and local biodiversity.

Here on the Palouse, 97 people made 1,473 observations, leading to the identification of over 500 species of wildlife. Thank you to everyone who took the time to make observations or identify species on iNaturalist!

If you're interested in helping document and identify local wildlife year-round, download the iNaturalist app to get started today.
