Join us at Neill Public Library on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30pm to learn about the term ‘Creole’ and how it has changed over time. It has been used to describe people, food, music, literature, and other cultural traditions. Today, many recognize it especially as the unique mix of cultures found in Louisiana. Hvizdak will discuss how, in the late 1800s, elite White Creoles sought to define Creole along racial lines through the use of art and material culture, as well as how the 1885-86 Creole Historic Exhibit demonstrates how ideas about race, culture, and inclusion were represented and preserved. Plus, get answers to your burning questions about the best sights to see and eat in New Orleans.

Erin Hvizdak is a Humanities Librarian at Washington State University Libraries Pullman. Hvizdak has earned master’s of arts degrees in History and Women’s Studies and Gender Studies, as well as a Master of Library and Information Science degree. She is also the author of the 2019 book, “The Woman’s Club of Evanston: A History.” Erin Hvizdak is a recipient of the WSU David G. Pollart Center for Arts and Humanities annual fellowship program, which funds arts- and humanities-based research and creative activities from WSU faculty.

Friday, September 4 | 5:30pm - Q***r Book Club - “Hungerstone” by Kat Dunn.

At this month’s club, we will begin gathering recommendations for our next six months of reads. Be sure to bring your suggestions!

The Q***r Book Club is a reading group that discusses books by LGBTQIA+ authors or featuring q***r themes. All are welcome! It is a space to connect, share diverse stories, and explore q***r culture, identities, and history.

QBC meets the first Friday of the month at 5:30pm. The books, which are suggested and selected by members, have come from a diverse array of genres, including romance, fantasy, literary fiction, memoir, and graphic novels.

Back to school! You know what that means, new fall programming!! Pay close attention to new days and times for Storytime programs this fall.

We are offering some awesome new and revamped programs for everyone! New functional skills programs for little ones, an exciting new STEM program for teens (special thanks to WSU NSBE), AND our very first Library Academy for elementary age kiddos.

Neill Public Library has received a $1,478,439.28 endowment from the Estate of Elinor McCloskey to provide ongoing support for library services and programs. Endowment fund distributions will amount to approximately $54,000 annually in financial support to the library beginning in 2027.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Sue Hinz shared information about Elinor McCloskey and presented her generous endowment to Pullman City Council during a Regular City Council Meeting. The endowment, which is managed by the Innovia Foundation, honors Elinor McCloskey’s dedication to Neill Public Library as both a patron and a passionate volunteer.

“On behalf of the Neill Public Library, we would like to thank the estate of Elinor McCloskey for providing this funding for our library,” said Library Director Stacie Echanove. “This endowment will help Neill Public Library continue with our mission to provide an open environment in which people have free access to a wide variety of stories, ideas, information, and opinions. Thank you very much.”

“This is an endowment that will continue on, as endowments are intended to,” added Mayor Francis Benjamin. “We’re excited.”

Adults’ Craft Club will be held Tuesday, August 18th, from 4–6pm. Felt Flowers & Pennant Flags

This month Craft Club will be playing with felt! Stay cool and get creative while learning how to make a variety of flowers and your own unique pennant flag.

As usual, we will provide all materials, a variety of examples, and instructions. No experience needed.

The Adults' Craft Club meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 4-6pm. We take care of the supplies and clean-up, you are only responsible for getting yourself here to create - no fuss, no stress, no mess.

The end of summer - and the end of Adult Summer Reading 2026 - is rapidly approaching! Through August 22nd, adults can win prizes with Book Bingo and your Activity Stamp Card.

BOOK BINGO - Earn prizes when you finish your first square, then your first bingo (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line), and when you get a blackout (complete entire card).
ACTIVITY STAMP CARDS - Complete non-reading activities and earn prizes after your fifth and tenth activities completed.

We're excited to launch our latest book club, Lit Happens! Get ready to dive into unforgettable stories and meaningful conversations. 📚✨ Whether you're a longtime literary fiction fan or curious to explore acclaimed novels, this is a welcoming space to read, reflect, and connect with fellow book lovers.

We'll meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6pm. We're getting started with TRAIN DREAMS by Denis Johnson. This 2011 novella inspired the 2025 movie of the same name. Read on Libby or contact the library to get a physical copy of the book.

📖 Everyone is welcome—no expertise (or registration) required, just a love of reading and great conversation. We hope to see you soon.
