McClain County Burn Ban
The McClain County Commissioners have issued a 14 day burn ban. This is effective immediately throughout the entire county.
It is unlawful for any person to set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop, or other wildlands, or to build a campfire or bonfire, or to burn trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass range, crop, or other wildland fires.
-Welding/Cutting Torch/Grinding. must be over non-combustible surfaces, use a blanket or screen over flammable vegetation. Wind Speeds must be less than 20mph. Must have a fire watcher with pressurized water or fire extinguisher.
-Campfires and Outdoor Cooking. Outdoor campfires or bonfires are prohibited. LPG, natural gas grills and charcoal fired cooking outside in a grilling receptacle are permitted provided the activity is conducted over a non-flammable surface and at least 5 feet away from flammable vegetation.
These are a few details from the burn ban. Please note that anyone in violation of the resolution shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and be subjected to a fine of not more than $500.00, to imprisonment for not more than 1 year, or to both fine and imprisonment.

🚨 PURCELL POLICE DEPARTMENT — VANDALISM INVESTIGATION

The Purcell Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism that occurred at McCurdy Park on July 14, 2026.

Officers responded to a report of vandalism and discovered that a storage building and other structures within the park had been spray-painted with red and purple paint. The word “FENT” was also clearly painted on the side of one of the buildings.

We are asking for the public’s assistance. If you were at McCurdy Park around the time of the incident, observed any suspicious activity, or have information that may help identify the person(s) responsible, please contact us.

OSBI INVESTIGATES SUSPICIOUS DEATH IN LINDSAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
JULY 8, 2026

LINDSAY, OK – On July 7, 2026, the McClain County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate a suspicious death.

Just after 1:00 p.m., McClain County dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible vehicle explosion near 194th Street and Wooten Way in Lindsay. When fire personnel arrived on scene, they located a vehicle on fire in the roadway.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and discovered an adult male deceased inside the vehicle. That individual was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the victim’s identification, as well as his cause and manner of death.

The cause of the vehicle fire and circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are still under investigation at this time.
