Officer Taylor was assigned to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and was assisting on a fire around the Indiahoma area.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is mourning federal wildlife officer David Taylor, 38 of Scio, Oregon, who is believed to have died while helping evacuate residents threatened by the Railroad South Fire.

Officer Taylor was going door to door alongside local emergency crews helping families get to safety. His last contact with dispatch came while he was helping a family evacuate their home. Evidence recovered from a structure where he was working to help a resident escape indicates that he died during the evacuation effort. Formal identification remains pending with the medical examiner.

Everything we know about David's actions reflects extraordinary courage, selflessness and devotion to duty.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, fellow officers and all who served alongside him. We will never forget his service.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office supports the 240-month federal prison sentence imposed today on Austin Reeves for the arson attack that destroyed the home of a McClain County deputy and his family. This crime was more than an act of destruction against property. It was a deliberate act that endangered a deputy and his family in the place where they should have been safest — their home.

The impact of this crime extended well beyond the property that was destroyed. It affected a law enforcement family, the members of this agency who serve alongside them, and a community that responded immediately to support one of its own. This attack directed at a law enforcement officer and the officer’s family must carry serious consequences. The 20-year sentence imposed today reflects the gravity of that conduct and provides accountability for an act that placed lives at risk.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives, the various State, Local and Tribal agencies for their
work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. We appreciate the commitment of the investigators and prosecutors who carried this case through the federal justice system and ensured the individual responsible was held accountable.

We also remain grateful to the citizens, businesses, organizations, and members of the law enforcement community who supported our deputy and his family following the fire. Their response demonstrated the strength of the community we are privileged to serve.

A prison sentence cannot replace what was lost or erase what this family experienced. It can, however, provide accountability and demonstrate that deliberately targeting those who serve their communities — or their families — will be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the support they have received throughout this case.

MICKEY CHAPMAN, age 63, has a felony warrant issued by the District Court of McClain County for the following charge:

COUNT 1: FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A S*X OFFENDER (CF-2026-136)

CHAPMAN is a white male, 5’6” tall, weighs 155 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. His last known address was the Purcell/Washington area.

McClain County has issued a county-wide burn ban. The burn ban was issued on August 10th, 2026, and will be in place for two weeks.

Today, we had the privilege of honoring Sergeant Albert “Les” Hudson as he retired after 19 years of faithful service to the citizens of McClain County.

Les’ dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving others have left a lasting impact on the McClain County Sheriff’s Office and the community we proudly serve. Throughout his career, he exemplified integrity, leadership, and a servant’s heart, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Today, former and current coworkers, family, and friends gathered to celebrate his remarkable career and wish him well as he begins this next chapter.

Sergeant Hudson, thank you for your 19 years of service, sacrifice, and dedication. We are grateful for everything you’ve done for our agency and our community. We wish you and your family many years of health, happiness, and well-deserved retirement.

The McClain County Sheriff's Office is proud to have four of our School Resource Officer deputies recently complete Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician training hosted by Mid-America Technology Center - Wayne, Oklahoma.

This specialized training equips our deputies with the knowledge to help ensure children are properly secured in the correct car seats, reducing the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.

We appreciate Mid- America and Safe Kids Oklahoma for providing this valuable training opportunity and their continued commitment to serving our communities through education and public safety.

Congratulations to all of the newly certified technicians. Working together, we can help keep Oklahoma's youngest passengers safe.

K9 Neo is settling into the job… but he’s still working on the finer details. 🌳🐕

Today’s lesson: Just because you can carry the stick doesn’t mean it’ll fit in the patrol unit.

We tried explaining that the truck has limited cargo space, but Neo seems convinced that “go big or go home” is department policy.

Safe to say, we’ll be sticking to narcotics detection—not log hauling. 😂

🐾 Welcome K9 Neo! 🐾

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office is proud to introduce our newest K9 team, Deputy Shane McCraw and K9 Neo.

Deputy McCraw recently graduated from the 160-hour K9 Handler School at Torchlight K9 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Over the course of four weeks, the team completed extensive training in K9 selection, obedience, narcotics odor detection, article searches, tracking, building searches, and apprehension work.

Deputy McCraw brings a wealth of experience to our K9 program, having previously completed both basic and advanced K9 handler training. His knowledge and dedication, combined with Neo’s abilities, make them a valuable addition to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.

K9 Neo will serve alongside Deputy McCraw in the detection of illegal narcotics, locating suspects and evidence, tracking, and apprehending dangerous offenders, helping us better protect the citizens of McClain County.
