The teen volunteers at Brambleton Library are at it again! This time, they're recommending some new beach reads for your summer vacation.
First up is "Heiress of Nowhere" by Stacey Lee, a historical mystery that was a popular pick for our teen volunteers. Aqsa K. thought that the mix of genres made the book especially unique, and lschulte thought the ending was well-paced and exciting.
However, both Niyati A. and lschulte warn that the dialogue's phrasing is a little old-timey. This style fits the book's World War I setting, but some teens might struggle with the vocabulary.
Our second book is "The Escape Game" by Marissa Meyer and Tamara Moss, which also intrigued several volunteers. Vihaan B. notes that the book includes topics important to teens, such as social presence and parental issues, within an exciting murder mystery plot. Dhanvita I. added that this book is a lot less intense than other murder mystery books out there, even calling the character relationships "wholesome."
Our teen volunteers compared "Heiress of Nowhere" and "The Escape Game" to the first book in the popular "Inheritance Games" series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - so if you're a fan, one of these books might be your next read!
Thank you to Simon Teen and Penguin Teen for continuing to support our ARC reader volunteer program.
