Each year, NFPA requires annual hose testing on each hose piece on every apparatus. Over the next couple of days, Fire Catt will conduct a high pressure test to determine if the hose meets the passing criteria and restock all our engines in an organized manner.

This past week Volunteer Firefighter/EMR Nik Pettenski and EMT Bree Reynolds spent their time training at Tri-Med Tactical for their TEMS course.
In this course Nik and Bre trained for any potential situations that would require a tactical response. They studied MARCH assessments, K9 medicine, hazmat treatments, extrication methods and more! We couldn’t be prouder of the time and dedication these two and put in to serving out island. Thank you Nik and Bree!

This weekend, the Ohio Fire Academy came to the island to help our department train on our ladder truck. During this six-hour training, we reviewed basic mechanics, operations, thinking outside the box, and how to better utilize our equipment.

We traveled around the island and practiced positioning the ladder in difficult to reach areas, as well as the best ways to set up the ladder truck in tight spaces.

We would like to thank Perry Holiday, Sand Bar at Put-in-Bay, Islander Inn, and Commodore Resort Hotel for their cooperation and help during our training exercises, and the Miller Ferry to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island for transporting our instructors to and from the island.

We would also like to thank the Ohio Fire Academy for once again making the trip to our little island to provide another impressive training!

With the busy tourist season approaching, trainings like these help us stay prepared and ready to keep our community safe!

Monthly IPAWS/WEA Test Alert 🚨

As part of our commitment to public safety, the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency will conduct our monthly IPAWS/WEA test TOMORROW (04/03/2026) at 12:00 PM, in conjunction with our monthly outdoor warning siren test.

📱 A test Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) will be sent to all mobile devices located within Ottawa County between 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM. You must be physically located in Ottawa County during that time to receive the alert.

These tests are part of the Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) and are used for serious emergencies like:
• Tornado warnings 🌪️
• Evacuation orders 🚨
• Other critical incidents where outdoor warning sirens are activated

⚠️ This is only a test and no action is required. These monthly tests help ensure the system is functioning properly and ready when needed. No sign up is required, if you don’t receive the test alert, please check your phone settings to ensure emergency alerts are enabled and TEST ALERTS ARE ON.
