📣 Exciting news!!

For the Love of the Game Baseball Camp is back in Putnam for its 4th season at Murphy Park! Camp will run from June 22nd-June 26th from 8:30am-12:00pm. This camp features the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, fielding and baserunning, while also stressing the importance of having fun and playing the game the right way.

For the Love of the Game Baseball camp is directed by Putnam High School Baseball Coach Joe Pishka and former Lyman Memorial HIgh School Coach Marty Gomez. The camp will feature coaches and players from high school teams such as Quinebaug Valley, Lyman Memorial, Bacon Academy, Killingly and Woodstock Academy.

Players should come prepared with sneakers/cleats, water, glove, and a lunch/snack.

Meet your local first responders and operators, learn about the equipment they use every day, and enjoy a hands-on community event for all ages.

FROM THE WINY RADIO NEWSROOM: PUTNAM: DRY WATERFALL AT CARGILL FALLS: Putnam residents and visitors may have noticed that there is no water currently flowing over the Cargill Falls dam in downtown Putnam.

WINY spoke with Putnam Mayor Barney Seney this afternoon. He said there is nothing to be worried about.

“The West Thompson Dam is doing tests on their facilities and they lowered the water way down,” Mayor Seney explained. “It’s going to take 24 to 48 hours to get it back up. They’re still testing their facilities. They have to do it every so many years. So that’s why there’s no water coming down. But they’ll resume operations as soon as they’re done their inspection. They’ve got to fill up the reservoir too so it’s going to be a little bit of time.”

The Mayor said he has received numerous concerns from curious and concerned citizens since this morning. WINY has received many similar phone calls as well.
