The Puxico fire department would like to announce that we will be hosting a parade tomorrow April 11th at 7:30 pm to honor all 2020 class graduates. With all the shut downs going on including the delay of that so very special day we thought it would be a great gesture to honor the class of 2020. With that being said we would like to invite all available 2020 seniors to join in. Decorate your car as you wish and meet at the FEMA building between 7:15 and 7:30 for line up. We ask that all students remain in there car during line up along the parade route and the completion of the parade which will end at the high school gym. We are going to try to end at approximately 2020 8:20 pm. We encourage the community to be outside to support our 2020 seniors. The route will begin at FEMA come south to West Harbin turn south on Turnbough to East Owen Ave we will cross hwy 51 go to North Hickman go west on Richardson to North Bedford and conclude at the high school gym. Thank you for your support in these trying times.

Seriously all corona jokes aside. Can y’all please say a prayer for us ppl that work in the healthcare field. Doctor, nurses, cna, hospital staff, transportation services, emt, Dsp, caretakers, firefighters and etc. we put our life on the line every day to take care of your love ones. We also put our children and family life on the line as well by being around hundreds of sick ppl and taking germs home with us daily.

I was reviewing some notes from a seminar that I attended at some point in the past year or so. While reviewing the notes it tied into several aspects of what we do and looking at officer promotions. We have all heard the everyone is a leader stuff floating around every where. To a point it is true, we all lead something whether it be a company or a battalion or the whole organization but sometimes it’s something as small as leading one foot in front of the other to get to training or to be on time for shift rotation. I know I’ve seen a ton of stuff on bad leadership floating around too. So where do each of us stack up? What is the level of leadership are we responsible for? What is the secret formula to being “ that person” that we strive to be or “ that person” that we don’t want to be labeled as? Or take it a little further the on the “that person” we don’t want to work for, are they really “that” bad or is it a personal conflict over something trivial like hurt feelings or differences of opinions?

We are in a people business, we serve “ the people” (that’s what we are supposed to be doing), we interact with people daily. The people we serve who call for help, the people we respond with on the apparatus or other means of transportation to the call, the people we relieve or relieve us at shift change, the people we relieve or relieve us for rehab, the people that check us out at the cash register when we fuel up or buy food. We interact with the people we are entrusted to lead as well. So before we head down the path to being exceptional leaders, we need to treat people like people and learn to interact with people.

The difference between exceptional leaders on the positive side of the spectrum and let’s say for now, those that aren’t so much, starts with learning and never stops until retirement or we pass through the confines of our earthly existence. Take every day as a learning experience, even those days that there are no calls from the people we serve. These are the preparation days to learn and practice effective ways to respond and safer ways to do what we do. (Took a slight detour there but it is relevant and important).

The acronym LEADERS-TEACH is where we are headed to be exceptional leaders. It’s a long journey down this path so what the acronym stands for is this.
L- Loyalty
E-Educated
A-Adaptable
D-Determined
E- Enthusiastic
R-Reliable
S-Selfless

T- Tough
E- Empathetic
A- Assertive
C- Courageous
H- Honorable

Be Safe Out There and Keep Learning
