Last week, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters Phillip Kaiser and Achaia Sigel traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the Firefighter Challenge Championship Series World Championships, joining firefighters from 21 countries.

Both had outstanding performances, each setting a new Washington State Record!

Phillip recorded a personal best of 1:32, setting a Washington State Record and finishing 12th in his individual category. He also placed 6th in Hybrid Tandem with a teammate from Germany and 5th in Hybrid Relay with an international team.

Achaia made an impressive debut at her first World Championships, finishing with a time of 4:14, setting a Washington State Record, qualifying for finals, and placing 4th in her individual category. She also joined an international women's relay team that finished 4th.

The two also had the opportunity to compete together in Tandem, bringing things full circle from their time at the Central Pierce Fire Academy, where Phillip helped Achaia prepare for her first Firefighter Challenge.

Every emergency is different, and getting to someone who needs help isn't always straightforward.

Forcible entry is one of the many skills our firefighters train on to prepare for the challenges they may encounter on a call.

The more we practice, the better prepared we are to adapt, work together, and get people the help they need.

During wildfire deployments, crews work long hours, navigate rapidly changing fire conditions, and help protect homes and communities threatened by wildfire.

This wildfire season, approximately 40 of our members participated in 12 deployments to fires across the region. From frontline firefighting and water supply operations to strike team leadership and incident management, our members filled critical roles wherever they were needed.

Each deployment brings new challenges and valuable experience that strengthens our crews' ability to respond to emergencies here at home.
