🚌📚 BACK TO SCHOOL = BUS SAFETY! 📚🚌

School will be back in session, which means more school buses—and more students getting on and off them. Let’s all do our part to keep our students safe! 💙

🚨 KNOW WHEN YOU MUST STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS:

🛑 RED FLASHING LIGHTS = STOP!
When a school bus has its red lights flashing and the stop sign is extended, drivers must stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the bus begins moving again.

⚠️ Two-lane road: Drivers traveling in both directions must stop.

⚠️ Multi-lane road: On multi-lane roads (three lanes or more, a physical barrier, or raised median) drivers traveling in the opposite direction generally don’t need to stop, but must proceed with caution.

🚸 Remember: Children may be crossing the road, and they can be unpredictable. Never pass a stopped school bus when the red lights are flashing.

Slow down, stay alert, and watch for students, crossing guards, and school buses as everyone gets back into their school-year routines.

🎉 Meet the “new” Senior Officer at Puyallup PD! 🚓💙

Please join us in congratulating Officer Wilcox, who was recently presented with Badge #1 by Chief Engle in honor of her distinction as the most senior patrol officer at Puyallup PD.

This October, Officer Wilcox will celebrate an incredible 22 years of service with the Puyallup Police Department! 👏

Since the Senior Officer tradition began, Officer Wilcox will be just the 5th officer to have the honor of wearing Badge #1.

Earlier this week, we stopped by to visit our friends at Puyallup Parks & Recreation’s Camp Yougottawanna and enjoyed some refreshing Otter Pops with cops and campers. 💙🍧

It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of a fun summer filled with smiles, sunshine, and great community connections!

And we’re excited to welcome our new School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Wiseman! 👮‍♂️💙

Officer Wiseman will be working alongside our schools, students, staff, and families to help make this school year a safe and successful one. We’re excited to have him on the SRO team!

Back-to-school photos can reveal more personal information than you may realize — including:
🏫 School name
📚 Grade or classroom
🎂 Age
👀 Identifying features
📍 Other details that may reveal your child’s routine or location

Even with privacy settings in place and only friends or family seeing your posts, it’s still a good idea to keep personal information to a minimum.

PRESS RELEASE:

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM, Puyallup Police were dispatched to a call of a domestic violence-related burglary and assault at an apartment complex in the 900 block of 9th Street SE in Puyallup. A 46-year-old male had forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment before tackling her to the ground and punching her in the head. The male initially prevented the female from calling 911, but then fled when she regained her phone and called police. The female was treated at the scene for her injuries.

Puyallup Police and Sumner Police officers responded to the male suspect’s last known address in the 7300 block of 166th Avenue East in unincorporated Pierce County. Officers ultimately confirmed that the suspect was at that location, and surrounded the property while trying to negotiate a peaceful surrender. The suspect eventually came outside but would not comply with officers. Officers attempted to negotiate with the male for an extended period, and Sumner Police deployed a drone to monitor his movements.

Puyallup Police ultimately deployed less than lethal options while trying to take the suspect into custody, to include pepper balls and a police K-9. As officers moved in to arrest the male suspect, he detonated an explosive device, killing himself. Four Puyallup Police officers and a Puyallup Police K-9 were in the vicinity of the blast, and were later seen at a local hospital for possible injuries.

The Puyallup Police Department Investigative Services Unit responded to the scene and is conducting an investigation. The Hazardous Devices (Bomb) Squad from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist with the investigation.

DEVELOPING: Our officers, along with neighboring agencies, are in the area of 7300 166th Ave E following a felony DV situation that occurring in the City of Puyallup. Area residents have sheltered in place and there is a large police presence. For now, please stay out of the area and allow first responders to work. Puyallup Police investigators are on scene and we will have further updates later.

FACT: Distracted driving isn't just texting.

Eating, adjusting the radio, using your GPS, or even reaching for something inside your vehicle can take your attention off the road. Just a few seconds of distraction can have life-changing consequences, especially in neighborhoods where children, pedestrians, and bicyclists may be nearby.

This week, as part of our Street of the Week campaign, officers will be conducting targeted speed enforcement on S. Meridian. Our goal is to encourage safer driving habits and help keep our neighborhoods safe for everyone.
