🎉 Congratulations on Your Retirement, Officer Temple! 🎉

After more than 28 years of dedicated service to the Puyallup Police Department, Officer Temple is retiring and beginning a well-earned new chapter.

Throughout his career, Officer Temple has demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, and service to our community. Since 1998, he has been a valued member of various Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, contributing his expertise and leadership in some of the department's most critical operations. Since 2000, he has also served on the department's Bicycle Team, helping strengthen community connections while proudly representing the department.

Beyond his daily duties, Officer Temple has represented the Puyallup Police Department with pride through his participation in cycling events such as the Chilly Hilly and Seattle to Portland (STP) rides for many years.

Thank you, Officer Temple, for your decades of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Puyallup. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on the department and the community you served.

We wish you all the best in your retirement and hope it is filled with happiness, adventure, and many miles of enjoyable riding.

🚲⚡ Thinking about riding an e-bike in Puyallup? Before you hit the road, make sure you know the rules!
Washington State recognizes three classes of e-bikes, and where you can ride depends on the type of e-bike you have. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on streets, bike lanes, shared-use paths, and trails. Class 3 e-bikes can be ridden on streets, roads, and bike lanes, but are not permitted on shared-use paths or trails.

Remember:
✅ Wear a helmet
✅ Obey traffic laws and signals
✅ Yield to pedestrians
✅ Stay alert and distraction-free

And don't forget—electric motorcycles are NOT e-bikes and are subject to motorcycle licensing and registration requirements.

Congratulations to Officer Cuevas and Corrections Officer Perantie on graduating from their respective academies last week!

Officer Cuevas completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, and Corrections Officer Perantie graduated from the Basic Corrections Officer Academy.

Months of hard work, dedication, and perseverance led to this moment, and we couldn't be prouder.

We are excited to introduce another one of our newest four-legged officers, K9 Dexter. 🐾

K9 Dexter is a tracking dog, specially trained to follow human scent and help locate missing persons, suspects, and evidence. Tracking K9s use their incredible sense of smell to follow a specific scent trail, often over long distances and through challenging environments. Their skills make them an invaluable resource in keeping our community safe.

Although new to the department, Dexter is already proving his abilities in the field. He has successfully completed some tracks, including helping officers locate this firearm during a recent deployment. These early successes highlight the important role he will play in supporting patrol operations and investigations.

Just as important as Dexter's training is the partnership he shares with Officer Bond. The two have already developed a strong bond built on trust, teamwork, and countless hours of training together. That connection is critical to their success and allows them to work seamlessly as a team when called upon.

🚨 PSA from the Puyallup Police Department 🚨

We have recently received reports of scammers contacting community members by phone, text message, and email, claiming they missed jury duty and are facing arrest unless they make an immediate payment.

This is a scam!

Scammers often use fear and urgency to pressure victims into sending money, purchasing gift cards, providing personal information, or making payments through cryptocurrency or mobile payment apps.

⚠️ Remember:
• Law enforcement will not call, text, or email you demanding payment to avoid arrest.
• Legitimate court matters are handled through official court notifications and procedures.
• Never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.
• If you receive one of these messages, hang up, delete the message, and do not engage with the sender.

If you believe you have been targeted by this scam or have provided information to a scammer, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

The Puyallup Police Department is excited to introduce K9 Coaster, our newest explosives detection K9! 💥🐾

Coaster, a black Labrador, was graciously funded by the Washington State Fair and Events Center, whose support helped make this valuable addition to our department possible.

K9 Coaster completed her training through WSP Explosive Detection program. Born on October 19, 2024, this hardworking Libra has already proven she's ready for the job ahead.

K9 Coaster and her handler, Officer Nelson, have completed more than 400 hours of intensive training together. Through that time, they've built a strong partnership that Officer Nelson sums up with a fitting nickname for his K9 partner: "My little angel."

While she may be sweet, Coaster is also highly skilled. She is trained to detect a variety of explosive materials, including black powder, smokeless powder, TNT, RDX/C4, PETN (sheet explosives), nitroglycerin, dynamite, and ammonia dynamite/Kinepak/emulsion explosives.

This dynamite duo is ready to serve our community by supporting public safety efforts at special events, critical incidents, and wherever their specialized skills are needed.
