Our crews have continued to be busy with storm damage and grass fire calls.

Today in addition to a medical call this morning Fairview Fire crews assisted Barnesville with a 4 acre brush fire off of State Route 379 in Temperanceville area. Engine 3 and Engine 4 responded with 7 personnel and assisted with fire suppression.

For those still without power the power companies are working quickly to restore power however damage is severe and when they turn sections of power back on after repairs other spots in the line that had unknown damage are sparking grass and brush fires. The power companies and thier contractors are working hard to keep these fires to a minimum but they can only do so much.

Remember more wind and potentially severe thunderstorms are forecast tonight into tomorrow. Many trees and power poles are barely hanging on from Fridays wind event and are extremely susceptible to more damage. Assume all downed lines are live. Call 911 and the power company when you come across down lines and crews will get there as soon as possible though it may take some time for power company crews to arrive.

Its been a busy 24 hours for our crews as well as nearly every other department in the area.

Since 4:41 yesterday afternoon our crews have been dispatched to 13 calls. Including motor vehicle crashes, medical calls, wires down, and several grass fires located across Guernsey and Belmont Counties traveling as far as the Kimbolton area. Our crews were able to handle most calls we were dispatched to though some proved challenging to reach with our crews being canceled on a few as other departments were able to reach them first and a couple calls our crews were diverted to other more serious calls.

Area power companies and highway departments are working as fast as safely possible to get power back on and roads cleared.

More high winds are forecast Sunday night and Monday. With already seriously damaged electrical infrastructure it won't take much to cause problems. Remember to stay away from any downed lines and assume they are live.

This afternoon Fairview Fire crews conducted some drafting and supply pump training.

Frequent training on basic fireground operations allows us to rotate new or less experienced personnel into roles they dont typically perform, allowing them to learn and gain experience in a non-emergency setting, ensuring that durning an emergency our crews are versatile and can fill any roll needed on the fireground.

Our crews are frequently tasked with drafting and water supply durning mutual aid calls with our neighboring fire departments. Water supply may not be the most glorious task on the fireground but is without a doubt one of the most important. You can't fight a fire without water and our crews take this responsibility vary seriously and take great pride in our water movement abilities and our reputation of always being able to establish a dependable water supply even in challenging situations.

Whether in training or an emergency call our crews work and train hard to ensure that we remain the reliable, professional, and dedicated fire and EMS personnel our residents and the residents of surrounding areas expect from us.

If you've ever been interested in becoming a firefighter or EMS provider we are always taking applications for new members. Come be part of an organization that prides itself on a no nonsense approach to doing the job while maintaining a fun and welcoming atmosphere outside of calls where the newest members opinions and ideas are valued as much as the most experienced members and officers. No experience is required. The department provides all training and equipment. Stop by a regular business meetings the first Saturday of every month at the firehouse at noon or reach out to this page or any member of the department.
