We will contact you and help you get started on the journey to make the world a better place...one child at a time! Thank you for your interest in Waterford Country School Foster Care! We believe the fostering relationship can be a place of great healing for children who have been abused, neglected, or otherwise traumatized. W
e generally serve children aged 12 years old and up, although siblings may be younger, who are connected to their older sibling. We also have partnered with Noank Support Services to provide homes for unaccompanied Spanish-speaking minors for short-term transitional foster care. We employ a holistic approach to fostering, which utilizes the foster parent as an important member of a child's treatment team. Our program works with foster families, children, and their family of origin to facilitate loving and supportive bonds that will ensure growth that lasts a lifetime. Foster care's primary goal is reunification. When reunification is not possible, foster parents are asked to help children prepare for another permanency goal. Some foster parents choose to adopt or transfer the child’s legal guardianship from DCF to themselves. Currently, due to COVID, all CT foster parents are trained using the DCF-approved online training. Our foster parents are additionally trained using Cornell University's CARE model, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families, and the Love and Logic model of discipline. Foster Parents are expected to participate in at least 28 hours of continuing education annually, facilitated by our program or offered by agencies such as CAFAF, DCF, or by the Foster Parent College. On-going 1:1 Foster Parent training and support is provided, as well as 24/7 crisis support through our on-call system.
