On April 2, 2026, between the hours of 10:00A.M. and 12:30 P.M., all public warning systems in Hardeman County will be tested at the direction of the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM. This testing will be performed by the cities of Chillicothe and Quanah, Hardeman County Office of Emergency Management, all school districts, law enforcement agencies, and any other entities with emergency alerting capability.
The purpose of this drill is to confirm system functionality, build confidence in activating and operating the technology, prepare the community to receive emergency messages, prompt community members to consider planning for disasters, and identify areas for improvement before an actual emergence occurs. The ability to efficiently and effectively warn the public of emergency situations is critical to community safety. Landline base emergency notification systems, wireless emergency alerting systems, and integrated public warning systems to include outdoor warning systems will be tested and are critical to ensuring accurate and timely communication during disasters and emergencies.
During this drill period, there will be ample notification that the activation of warning and alert systems is only a test and should require no action for those receiving or hearing notification systems.
