City of Quanah Declares Local State of Disaster and Issues Boil Water Notice
The City of Quanah has formally declared a local state of disaster following a severe winter storm, snow event, and widespread frozen water lines that have significantly impacted city infrastructure and water service.
On January 26, 2026, the City experienced conditions resulting in widespread damage and an imminent threat to property and public welfare. After careful assessment, and under the guidance of the Honorable Judge Ingram, and in coordination with the **Hardeman County Emergency Management Team—Mr. Eaton and Mr. Whittaker—**the Mayor and City Administrator have determined that extraordinary measures are necessary to alleviate hardship and protect the community.
Pursuant to Section 418.108 of the Texas Government Code, a local state of disaster has been declared for the City of Quanah. This declaration activates the City’s Emergency Management Plan and authorizes the City to take all necessary actions to respond to and recover from this event.
Boil Water Notice
Due to low water pressure caused by frozen lines and system impacts, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the City of Quanah to notify customers to boil all water prior to consumption.
Residents are advised to:
• Bring all water intended for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing food to a rolling boil for at least two (2) minutes, then allow it to cool before use.
• Use bottled water as an alternative when available.
• Water may be used for showering and general cleaning, but care should be taken to avoid ingestion.
This boil water notice will remain in effect until water system pressure is fully restored and bacteriological testing confirms the water is safe for consumption. The City will issue an official notice when the boil water notice is lifted.
Ongoing Coordination and Public Updates
The Emergency Management Team, City Administrator, and Public Works Director are working collaboratively to address current conditions, restore services, and ensure public safety. The City will keep the public informed of available services, resources, and operational updates as they become available.
The City of Quanah appreciates the patience, cooperation, and resilience of its residents during this emergency. Additional updates will be released as conditions change.
For official updates, residents are encouraged to monitor City communications and report water leaks or service issues to City Hall.
