Retaining our best and brightest is every leader’s mission. Today Marksmanship Training Company was fortunate enough to re-enlist Cpl Eric Ramos who is a 2111 Small Arms Repairer/Technician. He will be heading to 5th Marine Regiment in February!

Cpl Ramos was fortunate enough to conduct his re-enlistment/oath of office mid-flight on a MV-22! Big shoutout to HMX-1 for granting this outstanding Marine’s request!

Today the Weapons Training Battalion staff conducted a fam fire on our foreign weapon suites for the final time prior to DLA disposition. The instructors from the Formal Marksmanship Training Center provided an overview and safe handling procedures for all Marines present to enable a safe and fun filled Friday!

End of a Era: Foreign Weapons Instructor Course (FWIC) Completes its Final Resident Course

A chapter at Weapons Training Battalion – Quantico has been closed. Today the final Foreign Weapons Instructor Course (FWIC) graduated after weeks of intense instruction and practical application. FWIC was formally established in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) requirements. The course was designed to provide the Marine Corps and supporting agencies with subject matter experts who possess the knowledge, skills, and capabilities to conduct & instruct foreign weapons to organic personnel and foreign militaries. The course curriculum focused on instruction and practical application on a wide array of foreign weapons covering characteristics, capabilities, assembly/disassembly, troubleshooting procedures, and live fire. The capability reinforced unit commanders and aided in deployment preparation. As the Marine Corps pivots to Force Design 2030, it is necessary to divest in order to invest. The knowledge will remain accessible through a future distance education class coming online in the next 30 days

WTBn recently had the honor of supporting the first service wide squad competition in many years. On the first day the squads from all four divisions came to the Ironman range to conduct zeroing and an inventory infantry marksmanship assessment. WTBn with support from conducted scoring and data collection with the JMAP kits.

WTBn just concluded a Mobile Training Team to 2d Battalion, 7th Marines - HAVOC to instruct precision marksmanship skills in support of The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory - MCWL Infantry Battalion Experimentation. Crucial to the success of the training is our continued partnership with Office of Naval Research. With them we have helped develop the Joint Marksmanship Assessment Package (JMAP) which allows us to capture detailed data about every shot fired for future analysis and improvements to training. Weapons Training Battalion remains at the cutting edge of ensuring the U.S. Marine Corps maintain their edge in small arms lethality.
