Please, gather your children and grandchildren, let them know what today actually represents, or as time goes by it’s true meaning will be forgotten. The very reason they do not have school today is thanks to all the men and women who have served in The Armed Forces to keep America free.
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, representatives of the Allied forces and Germany met in a railway carriage in the Compiegne Forest in France to sign an armistice to bring hostilities of “The Great War,” called the “War to End All War,” to a close. Sadly, war has not ended. Each generation learns anew that freedom has a price; and in each generation men and women of character have paid that price. Today, we designate the 11th day of the 11th month as Veteran’s Day, to honor those who have served to secure our freedoms. I ask you to recognize all of the men and women, past and present. They are all heroes.
Pause for a moment and think of those in your family who have worn the uniform in service for our country. May they always be remembered, and honoured.
