Today was the first "Burn Day" of 2026 for QFD. Members traveled to West Chester Fire Department Training Center to utilize their smaller burn building for a morning of Class A live burns. During this training, burn technicians use pallets and straw to build fires in the concrete structure for the sole purpose of teaching members fire behavior and fire attack.
Throughout the morning, we completed over 24 burns, switching crews from fire attack to search and rescue. Most of the 22 members that attended have less than 2 years in the company, so it was some excellent training for them, and for the experienced guys to pass on their skills and knowledge.
Thanks to everyone who turned out and put in the work, even in the heat. Everyone did an outstanding job, including the burn techs, some of which were from Bart Township Fire Company
Thanks also to the QFD Special Division for lunch, and to Robert Fulton Fire Company for standing by for us while we were out training. QFD still had members available in Quarryville for the apparatus that did not attend.
This adds another 150 manhours to this years training and skills that will serve each volunteer well.
