Potato Fest is Saturday, September 14 from 2 to 6 pm at Lyman Point Park in White River Junction. This is a free, kid-friendly, zero waste event! Everyone is invited to attend, Hartford resident or not. Come with your homegrown potato potluck dishes, ideas for skits, songs, or poems, and be ready to have a spuddin' good time!

The Hartford village with the most households growing potatoes will win the prized Golden Tuber and other fantastic awards! Want to be sure your household is included in the tally? Email [email protected] with your name and village if you are growing potatoes this season.

F.X. Flinn I've started a blog on DailyUV called Civics Matters. Here is my latest post, on what Hartford should do with the $1.9 million in extra taxes it collected in 2018 -- rebate it to the taxpayers:

Hartford property tax collections in Fiscal Year 2018 ran well ahead of the projections made in late 2016. The selectboard should consider an immediate one-time rebate to put some or all of this money back in the pockets of its citizens. The last time there was an enormous surplus in tax collection....

Local police are enforcing the 25 mph limit on Quechee Main St aggressively this autumn in response to neighborhood complaints of continual speeding. Cool it.

A very unusual bird for our area, a Great Egret, has taken up temporary residence around the campus for the last 10 days. Yesterday the bird was on the beach at Lake Pinneo. The black legs confirm the species; the white version of Great Blue Herons have yellow legs.

We have a car wash in Quechee! Car looking sharp and spiffy after a dusty Sun- Tues drive to Maine and back. Ran into Jake's Market and Squechee Clean scion James Kerrigan on the way in. Congrats to the Kerrigan family on getting the combo laundrymat / carwash up and running! Keep it clean everyone!😎😁😍💦

Quechee Lakes renter Jameson Davis was elected to the selectboard. Quechee local Mike Morris was defeated.

Selectboard incumbents Mike Morris and Sandy Mariotti lost to Jameson C. Davis, a Vermont Law School student, and Kim Souza, a White River Junction businessperson.
