Classroom Spotlight ✨ Mrs. Schmella

Mrs. Schmella’s 8th grade ELA class is all about finding your voice — and her students are loving every bit of it. 💛

Dallin, Jackson, Bridger, and Jace gave us the inside scoop on what’s happening in Room — and here’s what they had to say. Students are working on writing skills, building strong detailed essays, and analyzing texts — skills that will carry them well beyond junior high. 📝

But what really caught their attention? The cushions and free seating. Being able to sit with friends while they work makes the whole experience that much better — and honestly, a comfortable student is a focused student. Mrs. Schmella gets it. 🙌

Great writing starts with a great environment and it sounds like she’s nailed both. 🐴💙

Classroom Spotlight ✨ Mr. Scheer

Walk into Mr. Scheer’s 7th grade science class and you’ll feel the energy before you even sit down. 💛

His students are diving into everything from metrics and measurement to independent and dependent variables — and the labs? Don’t even get them started on the labs. 🔬

But don’t just take our word for it — here’s what his students had to say:

Our 8th-grade scientists turned into forensic investigators today to crack a high-stakes bakery heist!
When a life-size mascot cake was stolen from the bakery, the police found a mysterious trail of white powder leading out to the alley. Using real-world chemistry, our students tested unknown powder samples gathered from the crime scene and three key suspects using water, vinegar, and iodine.
By carefully observing physical vs. chemical changes—looking for dissolving, fizzing, and sudden color shifts—they gathered the evidence needed to write their final Crime Reports and name the true Cake Bandit!

Monday was BRIGHT and we have the photos to prove it! 💡🌈

If you’ve ever walked into Mr. Hastings’ 8th grade math class, you already know — this guy just gets it. 💛

He became a teacher because he genuinely wants to see his students reach their full potential in life, and that shows up every single day in how he teaches. He also loves being at Casteel specifically because of all the activities and things that make this school special — and honestly, same. 🐴

Fun fact that absolutely nobody saw coming — Mr. Hastings built a 1970 Nova with his daughter. From scratch. A whole car. 🚗 Yeah, he’s pretty cool.

His advice to every student? Don’t stress — just do your best. And coming from him, that hits different. 💙

We’re lucky to have you, Mr. Hastings! 💛
