Children are curious about how things work, what they do, and sometimes just how they feel. While this image may be best suited for the younger ones, make sure you discuss dangers around your home with children of all ages, especially those that are home alone after school. Put away lighters and matches, discuss with them what to do in the event of a fire and make sure rules are in place for what they can and can't do in the kitchen when they are home alone.

Carbon monoxide poisoning and related deaths happen more frequently during the winter months because people are trying to stay warm. Your furnace, water heater, stove, space heaters, fireplace, woodstove, and dryer can be sources of CO, especially if they are not in good working condition or have been installed without proper ventilation.

Because CO is odorless, colorless, and otherwise undetectable to the human senses, people may not know that they are being exposed. The initial symptoms of low to moderate CO poisoning are similar to the flu (but without the fever). They include: headache, fatigue, shortness or breath, nausea and dizziness. Higher level of CO poisoning can result in more severe symptoms including mental confusion, vomiting, loss of muscular coordination, loss of consciousness, and ultimately death. [USFA.FEMA.GOV]

During these especially cold days we are experiencing, please check your carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are in proper working order. If you or anyone in your household are experiencing the symptoms above, get to fresh air and call 9-1-1.

There have been quite a few post on our story line that Queensbury Central DID NOT post. Queensbury Central Fire Dept cares about the life and safety of our residents. Not who is in office, what gender, race, or color somebody is and would NOT ever post anything negative about it. We have worked endlessly on this issue, but are unable to solve it. Unfortunately the only thing let is to delete this account and start fresh. Once the new account is up and running we will post it on this account so you all can find the new one. We will leave this account active for 1 week after to make sure everybody gets the new page. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Have a good day and as always, stay safe.

Be sure to put fire safety into your lineup this Super Bowl Sunday!

Kitchen Huddle: Prepare your cooking area! Keep all flammable materials at least 3 ft away from your stove.

Defense: Stay alert while cooking

Penalty Flag: The leading cause of fires is unattended cooking. Stay in the kitchen while cooking or set a timer!

Touchdown! Now your Super Bowl Sunday will be fire ready!
