Today on Memorial Day, Quilcene Fire Rescue pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice protects the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we are forever grateful to the service members, families, and loved ones who have carried that burden. Today is a day to remember their courage, their commitment, and the ultimate price they paid for our nation.

As our community gathers with family, visits loved ones, attends ceremonies, or travels this Memorial Day, please take a few extra steps to stay safe. Buckle up, drive sober, slow down, and be patient on the roads. If your plans include grilling, campfires, or outdoor activities, never leave flames unattended and make sure all fires are fully extinguished.

From all of us at Quilcene Fire Rescue, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. Safe travels, and may we never forget those who gave everything. 🇺🇸

Today at approximately 10:51 a.m., Quilcene Fire Rescue was dispatched to the report of a small private aircraft attempting to make an emergency landing on Highway 101 near the Highway 101/104 interchange.

While responding, crews were advised that the aircraft had safely completed an emergency landing in a field at Boulton Farms off Highway 101.

Upon arrival, crews found the pilot out of the aircraft and uninjured. The pilot reported experiencing an engine failure that caused an onboard fire while the aircraft was in flight. The pilot immediately began engine failure emergency landing procedures, was able to extinguish the flames using an onboard fire extinguisher, and safely landed the aircraft in an open field.

Quilcene Fire Rescue is thankful this incident ended without injury and would like to thank the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, WA. and the Washington State Patrol for their assistance.

Happy Mother’s Day from Quilcene Fire Rescue! 💐🚒

Before firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics show up, Mom is often the original first responder — fixing scraped knees, calming fears, giving hugs, and somehow always knowing exactly what to do. ❤️

Today, we want to thank all the moms, grandmas, bonus moms, and mother figures in our Quilcene, Dabob, and Coyle communities for the love, care, and safety you bring every day.

Mother’s Day Safety Tip: As the weather warms up and families spend more time outside, keep a small first aid kit handy for cuts, scrapes, and stings — and make sure kids wear helmets when biking, skating, or riding scooters.

From our QFR family to yours, Happy Mother’s Day! 🌷

Today 05/07/2026 at approximately 3:34 p.m., Quilcene Fire Rescue was dispatched to the report of a dog and its owner approximately 30–40 feet down an embankment in the area of Linger Longer Road.

QFR units arrived on scene and found a 125-pound dog, named Gidget, and its owner down the embankment needing assistance. Gidget had become stuck after chasing after a coyote. Its owner went down the embankment to prevent the dog from falling farther and to help rescue it, but due to Gidget’s size, he was unable to get the dog back up safely.

Quilcene firefighters, with assistance from Brinnon Fire Department and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, assembled a litter basket, ropes, pulleys, and a winch system to safely hoist Gidget back up the embankment.

Thankfully, both Gidget and its owner were uninjured.

QFR would like to extend a huge thank you to Brinnon Fire Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, WA. for their assistance in rescuing Gidget.

Great teamwork by everyone involved! 🚒🐾

⚠️EFFECTIVE MAY 8, 2026 THE COUNTYWIDE FIRE DANGER RATING IS MODERATE⚠️

🚫LAND CLEARING OR YARD DEBRIS BURNING IS PROHIBITED🚫

Please read the statement below or watch the attached video for more information.

After reviewing fire behavior indicators and environmental conditions, the County Fire Chiefs and the Jefferson County Fire Marshal have jointly determined that elevating the fire danger level is necessary. This decision is based on information and forecasts provided by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA), National Weather Service (NWS), and other state, federal, and local partner agencies.

MODERATE Fire Danger Restrictions and Guidance:

The following activities are prohibited: burn barrels, land clearing or yard debris burning, and sky lanterns.
Recreational fires are allowed in permanent or portable barbecues, outdoor fireplaces, or grills. Portable fire pits, fireplaces, and chimineas are allowed when placed on non combustible surfaces, or when surrounding combustible material is cleared down to mineral soil for at least 1.5 feet around the device.
Only natural wood may be used, and fuel must not extend outside the device.
All fires must be constantly attended until fully extinguished.
In summary, recreational burning, or “campfires,” are allowed during a MODERATE fire danger level, and all barbecue appliances may continue to be used. Large brush, yard debris, and land clearing fires remain restricted until a LOW fire danger level is re-established.

Duration of Restrictions:

The MODERATE (Blue) fire danger level will remain in effect until atmospheric and field conditions improve for a sustained period and the risks to residents, property, and emergency responders decrease to acceptable levels. Based on current forecasts, a minimum MODERATE level is expected to remain in place until at least September 30, 2026. Conditions will be monitored continuously, and fire danger levels are likely to be further elevated as the season progresses.

Quilcene Fire Rescue’s very own Firefighter Chewbacca or as the crews like to call him, “Chewie” is back once again to wish everyone a safe May the 4th Be With You and a happy International Firefighters’ Day!

Today, we celebrate the brave firefighters, EMTs, volunteers, and support personnel who serve their communities with courage, dedication, and heart.

Fire Safety Tip from Chewie: Don’t let your cooking turn to the Dark Side. Stay in the kitchen while cooking, keep anything flammable away from the stove, and never use the Force to silence a smoke alarm instead engage the ventilation systems and clear the smoke like you’re venting the Death Star!

Stay safe out there whether you’re battling flames or flying through hyperspace! 🚒🚀

🔥 What a Night for the Future of Fire & EMS! 🔥

We kicked off our Brinnon/Quilcene Fire Youth Cadet program in Quilcene Wednesday night, and it did NOT disappoint. This new group of cadets came ready to learn. They got right to work diving into station equipment, gearing up in full bunker gear, and mastering the fundamentals of donning and doffing their PPE like pros.

And here’s the best part…this program is already growing beyond our communities. We welcomed cadets from Lillywaup and even as far as Poulsbo. That kind of commitment tells you something big is happening here.

This is just the beginning. Their journey officially launched tonight. Next up is hands-on EMS training covering CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens on Sunday, April 26th at 4 PM at Brinnon Fire.

We still have a few spots open. If you’re between 14 and 17 and thinking about a future in Fire, EMS, or the medical field, this is your chance to get ahead, build real skills, and be part of something bigger than yourself.

And of course… every crew needs personality and cool call signs. Welcome to the team: John Deere, Fire Fly, Shark Tooth, Timmah, Snail, Kick Stand, Madzilla, Chowder, and Corn Bread. 🔥

Let’s go.
