It is a somber time for the City of Quincy as the community mourns the loss of three foundational figures who dedicated their lives to public service and local progress.

The passing of Mayor Arthur Tobin and his wife, Shirley Tobin, within just 24 hours of each other, is a profound testament to a lifelong partnership.

Mr. Tobin served as the Mayor of Quincy from 1978 to 1981 and held distinguished roles as a State Representative, State Senator, and Clerk of Courts for Norfolk County.

Of all the accomplishments Mr. Tobin made in his life— none were more impactful, more important to him, than his 70-year marriage to Ms. Shirley Straughn. Together they raised seven amazing children and watched their family grow by leaps and bounds.

Mr. Tobin will forever be known for his integrity and deep roots and impact on the city he loved. Arthur and Shirley were pillars of the community whose devotion to their family and the city left an indelible mark on Quincy’s civic landscape.

The city also honors the memory of Mayor James Sheets, a leader whose influence spanned decades of growth and education.

Serving as Mayor from 1990 to 2002, Sheets is credited with overseeing significant revitalizations within the city and fostering a culture of kindness and accessibility in local government.

Mr. Sheets commitment to Quincy College ensured that the institution remained a vital resource for local students, providing a pathway to opportunity for thousands.

The combined legacies of Mayor & Mrs. Tobin and Mayor Sheets service, compassion and dedication will continue to inspire the citizens of Quincy for generations to come.

As we close out the year—and my term on the City Council—I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your kindness and support. It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve this city. I truly believe we are on the right path and that great things are ahead for this remarkable community.

To the incoming council: I wish you the best in your new positions. I wish you the courage to be honest with your motivations and the wisdom to trust your instincts to support the greater good—even when it challenges your personal stance. For the sake of our community’s future, I encourage you to rise above the noise and support the wants of your neighbors and the citizens of our great City.

My Mom and Dad have always been my guides, teaching me to face everything with optimism, kindness, and the Golden Rule. Since I was a kid, I’ve also looked up to Roger Staubach—Naval Officer, Heisman Trophy winner, NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback, businessman, husband and father. Years ago, I watched a documentary where Staubach cited the Book of James as his guide: “You show your faith through your works.”

While my parents laid the foundation for everything it means to be a Campbell, Mr. Staubach brought it full circle regarding how I wished to conduct myself as a public servant. My faith is strong, and I will never stop doing “my works” for the City I love.

I am a husband.
I am a father.
I am a son.
I am a brother.
I am a friend.

And I will always be a Quincy kid.

Thank you, Quincy!

See you on Sunday!

See you on Sunday!

Here's the parade route for Sunday! 🥁 As a reminder, our 72nd Annual Christmas Parade will kick off at noon on Sunday, November 30th at the intersection of Hancock Street and Walter J. Hannon Parkway, continuing up Hancock Street to North Quincy High School.

Floats, marching bands and costumed characters, will fill the parade route with holiday cheer for all, and as tradition has it, expect a visit from Santa to anchor the parade before he heads back home to the North Pole! 🎅🏻

I’m deeply grateful for everyone who supported us in this campaign — those who voted, volunteered and believed in our message.

Though we came up short, I’m proud of the conversations we started and the community we built along the way. Thank you for standing with me.

The work continues and our engagement as citizens of this great City should always remain our highest priority. I can assure you, that priority will never change for me and my family.

Thank you!

It’s Game Day! If you care about Quincy and want a say in where we go next, make a plan and get to the polls. Then post this sticker so your friends, family and neighbors remember too. Little reminders go a long way in a local election. Thank you for all your support.

103,000 residents. 6 wards. 31 precincts. 19 neighborhoods.

All making up one Quincy.

It has been an honor to serve you and our city for the last two years. I would be grateful to receive one of your three votes for Councilor-at-Large and keep Quincy on the right track for generations to come.

The polls are open from 7a to 8p.

I’m proud to call Quincy home, and I believe the best way to honor our past is to build a future worthy of it. Let’s keep putting neighbors first and write this next chapter together.

On November 4, six candidates will be running for three at-large seats. I’d be honored to earn one of your votes.
